Hi, another "special" preferred waitlist here. Could you elaborate on what you meant by that? Do you have any numbers to refer to..?

I'm a 1L at GULC and I was on the SPWL last year. I just remember that most of the people on TLS who were on that list and displayed interest eventually got in. Good luck.

Most of the people on the SPWL got in sometime in mid-late March/early April. (The news wasn't so great for those who didn't get in by early April though.)

skimming through last year's wl thread, it sounds like they promised an update by March 22 and started taking people before that.

The only date I've heard from adcomm this year (special preferred) is the May 2 deposit deadline. Has anyone else heard anything earlier?

Yes, they started pulling people off the WL really early last year. No idea if that will be the trend again this year.

No, acceptance off the WL is non-binding, just like outright acceptances. The only difference is that if you are accepted off the WL late in the spring/summer, they will expect you to make a decision extremely quickly.

I'm not sure I understand your question. If you're talking about responding to the initial WL email where they ask you to confirm your interest in staying on the WL, then no, you're not under any obligation to withdraw from other WLs or withdraw from other schools to which you've been accepted (nor is there any expectation on the part of the adcomms for you to do so).

If you're referring to being accepted off the WL, a lot depends on the timing. If you're accepted before seat deposits are due, there is no requirement or expectation for you to withdraw from other schools. In fact, it's the same as if you had never been WLed at all. It's just another school for you to consider. It gets a little stricter after seat deposits have passed. Remaining on a WL is never binding, so you are not forced to attend if you end up being accepted, but there is an expectation that if you remain on the WL through late spring and into the summer, that you would attend if given the opportunity. You are free to remain on as many WLs as you want, even if you've put down deposits at one or more schools. The only exception is for schools who require you to withdraw from all other schools at the time you put down a deposit.

I'm pretty certain my status checker used to read Application completed 1/28 (sent 1/8) but at the moment it stands at Application completed 2/28, the day I got my waitlist decision.
Is this typical? Mind if I ask what all you fellow SPWLers' status checkers say right now?
Or is the status checker pretty much useless at this point for us?

What are the chances of a scholarship coming off the SPWL? Anyone have an idea of what happened last year?

I read these boards all the time so thought it was time for me to contribute. I was put on the special preferred waitlist and got in on Friday. I was able to log into the admitted student website and then had a letter waiting for me in the mail. I hope other people start hearing soon also!

Do you mind sharing when you were placed on the SPWL? Did your status checker change at all?

I got put on the preferred waitlist but the email didn't say anything about having to respond to accept a spot. In fact, it said I only have to reply if I do NOT want to remain in consideration. Should I still send a LOCI? I was deferred from ED and already sent a LOCI last month.

Just withrdrew from the waitlist. I submitted in January, complete 1/28, did a group interview in early Feb and found out about the WL on 3/11.

Needed money to give up going to Berkeley Law.

Got off the preferred WL yesterday via snail mail! Definitely surprised, since the admissions lady I emailed told me they wouldn't be offering WL admissions until May.

Good luck! Hopefully the fact that they're letting in WL people this early bodes well for the rest of you.
