I know of a quite few people who did that. They requested a meeting with the Dean of Admissions. They then promised the Dean the world (exaggeration) and try to sell them on what a great student and addition to the law school they would be.
Each person was a borderline acceptance or better. I think only a few of them were accepted, one of them right on the spot.
The ones that I know that did this last year were told to get great grades in their 1L years and then transfer.
