interviews seem pretty random?
does this mean they accept some people without interviewing them?

Re: Waiting Thread for People Who Submitted AFTER 11/15
I found the below post on an GULC Interview thread:logistikon wrote:interviews seem pretty random?

" found out from my Georgetown contact that only alumni applicants who had not participated in the on campus group sessions with the dean of admissions and whom the admissions committee is considering strongly are invited to interview with a Georgetown alumnus/a. This is only the third year that Georgetown has held individual interviews; this year only 600 will be invited to interview. You are not at a disadvantage if you don't interview. Interviews are usually 30 minutes long and are usually held at the alum's work place (although they may also be done via phone or Skype). The interviewer will not have a copy of your application or resume, but you are welcome to bring a copy if you wish. You should be prepared to talk about yourself and why you feel that Georgetown is a good fit. You should also be prepared with some questions to ask the alum. In the past, about 75% of those applicants who were interviewed were admitted. So, you are in a very good position."
However, another poster on the GULC thread said that only about 20-30% interviewed actually get a straight acceptance. The fact is though that if its true that only 600 people are interviewed than that is far less than the number of applicants G-town admits so basically I guess a lot of those accepted aren't interviewed.

No I think it's saying one group who get interviews are alum and some other applicants get them as well.logistikon wrote:am I reading that correctly? only georgetown alums get interviews?

I visited GTown, and the Dean specifically gave a small percentage - they interview a small % of their total applicants and they accept a ton of applicants without interviewing them.

Re: Waiting Thread for People Who Submitted AFTER 11/15
So does an interview mean they love you and want to know how much $$ to give you, or that they're on the fence about admitting you and if you perform really well or really badly that that will be their deciding factor, or is it entirely random like a pilot program for maybe doing wider-scale interviews in an upcoming cycle? SO MANY POSSIBILITIESglewz wrote:logistikon wrote:interviews seem pretty random?

Re: Waiting Thread for People Who Submitted AFTER 11/15
i submitted all of my apps on the 16th/17th (with the exception of alabama which i just submitted this weekend). i've already heard from 4 schools. accepted to all (with the exception of kentucky which sent me a letter explaining that my file wouldn't be reviewed again until january).
everyone in this forum is an overachiever, don't worry about sending your apps in this late... most students don't even worry about this stuff until after christmas break.

I submitted 12 last Sunday, 1 on Wednesday, I'm complete at all but a couple of them, but they're both super reaches so I don't really care that much.

I submitted my apps 11/21.. I'm really hoping next week stirs things up and that I don't have to wait much longer than the end of Jan. But...I'm sure I'll still be sitting here in April.
Good luck to everyone!

Re: Waiting Thread for People Who Submitted AFTER 11/15
The reason for this is "random reinforcement." http://foreverinhell.blogspot.com/2009/ ... ement.htmlkjadkins wrote:I do the exact same thing. I know how pointless it is, but that doesn't stop me.glewz wrote:oy, checking statuses all the time

Essentially, because every once in a while something changes you are rewarded with "news." So you worry that if you don't do it, you won't find out the "news" when it happens. It just reinforces the status checking behavior.

Re: Waiting Thread for People Who Submitted AFTER 11/15
So I was looking at the NYU spreadsheet at this thread:
http://www.top-law-schools.com/forums/v ... 2&t=137012
and it shows NYU applicant's who applied mid November got acceptances about a month later.
I submitted my application on 11/19, but I'm still not even under review. Anyone else in this boat?

Submitted 13 apps on Dec 1. CCN MVPB NDGC UCLA USC. So far complete everywhere except NYU (processing), CLS (completion pending), and Cornell. URM, btw if anyone was wondering. Just went complete at Penn and GULC (might have been a 2nd complete) today.

Re: Waiting Thread for People Who Submitted AFTER 11/15
11/19- 8 apps (all complete/under review/no status checker)
11/24- 5 apps (all complete/under review/no status checker)
11/29- 2 apps (one acceptance/other no status checker)
I'm not expecting to hear anytime soon yet of course that doesn't prevent me from looking at my status checkers every day. If you are auto-ding they leave your status as "under review" and then send you the rejection mid-Jan right? Because I have been under review at Harvard and Berkley since 11/22 and I know I have zero shot at either of those (I figured $200 is worth a chance at a dream).

Check out this link - perhaps it can can ease your anxiety. Though few in data points for our group, the spreadsheets still can provide some meaningful indicators. And what I mean by meaningful is...since we're clinging onto every bit of info we can get, it helps right.
