Re: Maine 2011
I already sent in my seat deposit here. I don't need the scholarship money (GI bill) and my wife and I live in Portland, theres no real competition here. The trick with this school will be to see how the local economy turns in the next couple of years. There have been a couple of firms to set up shop in town over the past few years, but Portland is a VERY small economy, and there isn't much else in the state as far as good firm-work. Anybody who has applied here probably already knows: Maine places great within the state, but if you don't plan on living here, I wouldn't plan on attending law school here. Oh, did I mention, its cold? (I just moved back from FL... BRR)

well that's really cool, i'm so happy for you! sounds like everything has worked out!!
and yes, like the comments above.. i am also looking forward to receiving a scholarship letter. Even though it's #100 (haha) , I am sorta anxious to see if I can start getting money from non T3 or T4.

Re: Maine 2011
Just wanted to throw this in the ring, see what people think. I had a tour of Maine Law scheduled for last Friday at 2pm. There was a storm that day, they ended up closing the campus at 1:30. I live in-state (80 miles away). They didn't call me to let me know. I called admissions and left a message while standing at the (locked) front door. (I busted out the browser at that point and saw the campus closure on the USM [not Maine Law] website.) No one has contacted me since Friday either. I think on both counts the school has been seriously delinquent.
Any comments? I have to say this sort of behavior makes me seriously question whether Maine Law is a place I want to be.

Re: Maine 2011
I got this reply 6 days ago regarding scholarships. Their lack of contact has definitely pushed them out of the running for me. They havent been sending mail or emails or anything since I got the acceptance letter.
"The Scholarship Committee is a bit behind schedule because one of the members has been on maternity leave. The committee should reconvene in a week or two and notify the recipients of merit scholarships by mail. I will pass your e-mail along to them.
I apologize for the delay. Thank you for your patience and interest in Maine Law. Feel free to contact me with any further questions."

Re: Maine 2011
One would think that, seeing as pregnancy tends to offer as much as 9 months notice, that Maine Law would have had time to figure out a more manageable solution than to just delay. Sorry to hear about your experience, I am sad sometimes to call Maine home. Coupled with my experience (former post) perhaps Maine Law is screwed up.solarae wrote:I got this reply 6 days ago regarding scholarships. Re: Maine 2011
Why is this the first thing people on this site always ask? If you are at or above 75th for LSAT and GPA for most schools they will award some merit $$$. But since you (inevitably) asked 159/3.79.StillHerexxx wrote:Stats?

Got admitted today via snail mail. No financial aid info yet. Congrats on the 5k ... i think that's a pretty big award for Maine. I don't know if I missed it or they just updated it, but my online status check does say 'Congratulations! You have been accepted.'

Congrats to you. And thanks. While not as impressive as other awards I've received from other schools in terms of amount for this school it is a pretty decent scholarship. They just don't have much merit aid to hand out.twozeroseven wrote:Got admitted today via snail mail. No financial aid info yet. Congrats on the 5k ... i think that's a pretty big award for Maine. That is asked first so you can gauge how much money people are getting for certain stats. Not a hard concept.

Here's a novel idea and one that might help you in law school: do a little research. Not a hard concept.StillHerexxx wrote:That is asked first so you can gauge how much money people are getting for certain stats. Not a hard concept.

some one seems rather bitter. the whole point of this to let people know whats going on at certain schools. I think you missed that smart guy. Go be an asshole somewhere else.

I was asked to send in a copy of my tax return. Did anyone else have to do this?

Quick question:
I just received an email to activate my account. I did, and when I checked the financial aid tab, I only had stuff from fafsa; no scholly. Does that mean I didn't get any?

I will activate mine tomorrow and see what comes up. One of the scholarship ladies is on maternity leave, so they are way behind on getting them out. How are you numbers compared to medians, that will give you an idea if you will get a scholarship.

LSAT a little below the median, GPA below 25%, URM. I'm not pretending to not know why I got accepted so fast

Where do you go for the financial aid info?
You got in, thats what is important. Being instate or from new england can help save money.

I click randomly on all the links they sent until I find the Maine Street link. Then log in and go to Student Self-service, Student Center and Finacial Aid for 2012
Seriously? What are you waiting for?
