Congrats, Iceman389.
Not to be too rude or nosey, but any idea why you are one of the first applicants to hear back from Syracuse? From LSN, it looks like you applied at the end of November, so not super early there. I got the impression the school may have been waiting to see the applicant pool before sending out decisions until now. In any case congratulations on the acceptance and merit scholarship!

Did they notify by e-mail first? Or did you find out the decision by US Mail first?Iceman389 wrote:Received my acceptance package today! Comes in a big envelope with a Syracuse law tshirt. Also received 20k a year merit scholarship with 2.8 GPA requirement at the end of each year.

Re: Syracuse 2011 applicants
To respond to the last couple of posts, I'm kind of shocked that I received a decision already considering, like you said, that I really didn't apply that early compared to some of the other applicants. Obviously I have no idea why I received my decision when I did compared to others that applied earlier in the cycle. All I can say is be on the look out for a fairly large USPS priority mail envelope that contains a bright orange folder and a gray Syracuse law t shirt. The last notification that I received from Syracuse was an e-mail on 12/10 saying my file was complete. No e-mail following that and I'm pretty sure that according to that e-mail they said all decisions would be made via snail mail. The acceptance letter and scholarship letter were both dated 1/13.

Got the acceptance packet today as well. In with a 27K year Deans Scholarship. 158 3.53. Also got a nice Syracuse Law t-shirt ( now i have another workout shirt) from their bookstore.
this makes things interesting. will have to see how the financial aide packet is before making the final decision.

For those with acceptance packets, how far are you from Syracuse? In state? Bordering? Cross country?

I just got the acceptance package. I'm in Northern Virginia. Where did you guys all see the scholarship info? I don't see anything about it. Hope this doesn't mean they expect me to pay sticker.

Re: Syracuse 2011 applicants
Hey, from upstate New York, I received my package today too, with the 33K Chancellor's Scholarship. The scholarship letter is in the orage folder, right behind the primary welcome letter, printed on the same kind of paper.
Here's what I posted on my LSN profile for anyone wanting details:
SYRACUSE, does not have a status checker. You will only hear from them through the mail starting on Jan. 18th, so be on the lookout for large white cardboard envelopes in the US mail (that might not fit in your mailbox and may contain a T-shirt). My letter was dated the 13th, post-marked the 15th, and due to the MLK holiday, did not arrive until the 18th. I applied about a month ago, and included the optional essay for consideration for a merit scholarship. So far, the others on this site who have received notice also applied for and received a merit scholarship. In addition to the T-shirt (they like to give free stuff I think, I also have a jump drive from a law school fair last semester from them ) Syracuse sends a nice orange folder with a personalized welcome letter and, if applicable, an additional letter detailing scholarship information, along with the usual materials.

I'm in! No scholarship. Bummer. As it is one of my top choices. Little nervous about close to $200k in sticker....

Re: Syracuse 2011 applicants
I saw that as well.. but it only made me confused since thats a decent sized gap. 2 tenths of a point is pretty big, especially if you have to maintain a 2.80. Im hoping that the curve is 3.0, ( which means the median grade is a 3.0 or B, correct?).
I think I will email them to double check. Its pretty important to know how well you have to do in order to keep the scholarship.

I've been contemplating staying in state and going to Cuse.. can anyone who knows more about the school than I do currently shed some light on whether they give full rides ever? also, whether you can negotiate the stips?

Grades for all students must have a mean between 2.90 and 3.10 and distributed within the following percentages:northwood wrote:I saw that as well.. but it only made me confused since thats a decent sized gap. 2 tenths of a point is pretty big, especially if you have to maintain a 2.80. Re: Syracuse 2011 applicants
Began the process of trying to get them to raise their current scholarship offer of $0.
Doesn't look like they are going to budge.
When it's all said and done I'll come back and let you know how not to negotiate with them.
