Re: Arizona State 2011
It seems like everyone here is saying that this is going to be a long wait. I'm RD and I applied late november. When you say long wait are you talking like Feb or March.
I was hoping to make my decision sooner rather than later but ASU is one of my top choices and until I hear back from them I cant really do anything.

Re: Arizona State 2011
I volunteered in admissions last year, so I do have a bit of perspective. We would call the accepted students, and every week new names would be added to the binder. Once the EA acceptances go out, things will happen pretty smoothly with acceptances being mailed at least once to twice a week. The earlier you applied and the stronger candidate you are, the sooner you will find out. Thus, if you are a borderline candidate/applied late, it will probably take longer.yabuddy wrote:It seems like everyone here is saying that this is going to be a long wait. I applied EA, and I think I remember finding out the first to second week of January, but last year they went out a bit later.

Tomorrow would be the end of week 2...looks like they're continuing the trend of continually going out latermepg wrote:I applied EA, and I think I remember finding out the first to second week of January, but last year they went out a bit later.

I applied EA and was originally told that we'd hear back by January 15th.
I called earlier this week and was told by the woman in the admissions office that I'd hear back by the end of the month.

1L at ASU Law here. PM me any questions and I will be as complete as I can. If fact, you can shadow me to classes if you can arrange your schedule. You'd be going to 2nd semester 1L classes. Wish I had done this.
There is also a 2L earlier in the thread. Hit us both up.

I came to visit a class earlier in the year...it really was a good experience. I came away with a much more favorable view of ASU. Prof was a justice on the AZ supreme court, was pretty funny. Not what I was expecting from a Civ Pro class.

mcdonrb, what was your impression going in, and what did it change to after spending time with that prof? I was at ASU for my undergrad, so I want to believe that my U has a great Law program.

Re: Arizona State 2011
I knew that it was going up in the rankings, but I didn't know if that was connected to the quality of the education (I'm sure you could find many people who would say the two are not related). The buildings (law and law library) are nice, the faculty is pretty great, since it is the only major law school in the metro area and one of the only ones in the state. From what I can tell, it places pretty well in Phoenix, also. I know many ASU law grads who are very successful. I think in-state tuition + low cost of living + living in (and liking for the most part) the greater metro area = a pretty good law school experience. The one thing that gives me pause about ASU is that I'm not sure I want to stay in AZ after law school. I visited GULC when I was visiting a friend in DC, and ASU students seem much more laid back.ColomboHeat wrote:mcdonrb, what was your impression going in, and what did it change to after spending time with that prof? Anyone think that ASU is going to mail their EA decisions this week? I really hope that they don't wait til next week since that will technically be the last day of the month.

They didn't guarantee that they would be in before the end of January, they just said they would try very hard. Still, I imagine that this week we'll be seeing some movement. Anyone know if they do email, phone calls, or snail mail acceptances...?

If it is like the last couple of years, you will get a binder in the mail.mcdonrb wrote:They didn't guarantee that they would be in before the end of January, they just said they would try very hard. IN!
Just got an email- admitted. Crazy, no warning, just like that. I like how the red font on the "congratulations" is huge. Made me smile. For those curious- "Please watch your mail next week for a packet with information about admission, programs, financial aid, and other helpful facts."
So that's nice, I guess.

2.97, 169. Good softs and work experience.
Applied early action back at the end of October. Scholarship info, I assume, will be in the mailed packet.

I was EA. There's literally just that one sentence: "Please watch your mail next week for a packet with information about admission, programs, financial aid, and other helpful facts." There's no specific mention of scholarships, but I'm hoping. Does anyone know how much ASU gives out commonly? I was really shocked to hear you only could get $20,000 from Penn State.

Completed on 1/21. 167/2.95/non-traditional applicant. I've visited the Phoenix area a number of times and could see myself living in the SW. Excited to hear something in the coming month or two.
Seriously? What are you waiting for?
