Re: John Marshall Chicago 2011
Congrats on your first acceptance but I'd just like to add that I know a few people who went to JM last year on schollies and only one of them kept it for their 2L year. JM is known to section stack, I recommend taking a look at the statistics of the number of recipients who stay on scholarship their 2L year. Unfortunately the odds are against you my friend.Greg2011 wrote:My first acceptance! In with a $60k (over three years) scholarship. Requirement to remain in top 3rd of class.

Letter was mailed on Wednesday. I can't imagine that it's a rejection but stranger things have happened.

I applied knowing nothing about which law school was which, just got a fee waiver so thought it would be a good safety. I got a few other offers though. Unless someone can correct me, jmls is a crap school competing with some heavy hitters in the chicago market, why take the risk even with a full ride?

Re: John Marshall Chicago 2011
JMLS, for some reason, has great lay prestige in Chicago. I am born and raised in the city, and whenever I tell someone I am interested in law school they always let me know "John Marshall is such a great school." I just tell them that it isn't exactly what I am looking for.caligulove wrote:I applied knowing nothing about which law school was which, just got a fee waiver so thought it would be a good safety. For the record though, and purely anecdotal, I have known quite a few people who go/have gone to JMLS and secured decent positions working for the county and state (think 45 to 50k/year). JMLS does have decent rep in terms of governmental placement.
But if you are looking for the BIGLAWLZ or MIDLAWLZ, avoid JMLS like da plague.

I applied over 6 weeks ago and still no response. This can't be a good sign.

Does your status checker still have "Your file is currently being reviewed by the Admissions Committee" in the header area? This status checker is different than all of my others.hennenr wrote:I applied over 6 weeks ago and still no response. This can't be a good sign.
Anyone have any input there? Thanks!

JMLS probably should not exist....look at Chicago and the market and really question if this is a smart decision.

Re: John Marshall Chicago 2011
I really dont understand why people waste their time posting these kind of comments. John Marshall is a great school. Yes it is highly unlikely you will get any sort of big law position upon graduation but I dont think anyone on this thread said they would. Yes if you are taking out loans to pay for every cent of law school then maybe this isnt the right option for you. But once again, that is not the case for everyone. Some of us are interested in attending john marshall to get a well rounded legal education that do not have to worry about finances and are ok with starting off in a lower paying position. I believe one of the partners at one of the major firms in chicago is a graduate from JMLS as well as many highly regarded judges and DAs. Please find another way to waste your time other than ripping on lower ranked law schools.Snape wrote:JMLS probably should not exist....look at Chicago and the market and really question if this is a smart decision.

There are actually movments within Congress and well known and established circles to get rid of up to 80 law schools---including JMLS--just trying to make people completely realize and understand what they are getting themselves into.

While there are plenty of people with reasons they want to give why folks shouldn't go to JMLS, this is not the place to do that. The acceptances/denials/waitlists forum exists for people to discuss acceptances, denials, and waitlists. Anyone who posts in this forum to tell people not to attend any law school, no matter how right and valid their claims are, may get banned for trolling.

Although the plethora of law schools is likely the cause of the shambles of a legal market the US has turned into, I highly doubt that it's true. Law schools make money, and they won't go out without a fight.AlphaIncipiens wrote:Back this up please. I have narrowed down to 2 schools and won't be attending JMLS. I will withdraw soon and hope my full tuition scholarship goes to a fellow TLSer!

Anybody had any success negotiating scholarship amounts with John Marshall? I was offered 10k a year but will need at least twice that amount to seriously consider attending.
Seriously? What are you waiting for?
