Re: American University 2011 Applicants
I applied early October - around the 5th or so- and my status checker says " Application Complete" and the current status date is "11/10/10" does that mean that my application wasn't considered complete until now, that the review was completed today, or neither? Just curious as people who applied around when I did heard today. #s- 165, 3.71

Re: American University 2011 Applicants
My status checker said 9/23 originally and changed to 11/10 today. They probably accepted people in that boat but just didn't send out the acceptance email yet because they didn't feel like staying past 5pm.

Lol. Seeing that your numbers are higher than mine on both accounts, I think that the "didn't want to stay past five" hypothesis might be true. My last name starts with the letter "L", does yours come after thatlawgrl21 wrote:I applied early October - around the 5th or so- and my status checker says " Application Complete" and the current status date is "11/10/10" does that mean that my application wasn't considered complete until now, that the review was completed today, or neither? My status date changed as well.. but, I didn't get an e-mail and it still just says application complete. My last name starts with a G and I have a 167/3.6... I'm thinking WL

American's notorious for YPing. I expect it will happen to me as well (166/3.94). If it does, I plan on calling the admissions office and letting them know their tactics are a very poorly kept secret.agoldst426 wrote:My status date changed as well.. but, I didn't get an e-mail and it still just says application complete. Seriously? what do you think their cut off for YP is? that is a little absurd to not accept "over qualified" applicants who actually may want to attend their school. . .

At American, the magic numbers are 162, 163, and 164. Score any higher or lower and there are no guarantees.
The way they YP is disgusting. Instead of indiscriminately waitlisting everyone with a 165 or above, why not add an optional essya prompt or two on the application? That's the fairest way to weed out overqualified candidates who don't take the school seriously. If there were a "Why American?" essay, I would have taken the time to complete it....
