Re: UChicago 2011
I don't think I did. It was my understanding that there was a huge jump in LS applications last year to every school, which in most cases (e.g. NYU) caused the #s to jump because each school could afford to be more selective. Whatever, at least I'm above median now haha..Sentry wrote:I think you just answered your own question.lawschoollll wrote:How did UofC manage to go down when everyone else went up... Re: UChicago 2011
Just because there were significantly more apps doesn't mean that there were a significantly larger number of 173+ LSAT scorers. When you look at the huge classes at Harvard, Columbia, and NYU you're talking about those three schools taking about 600 173+ers. That doesn't leave a lot left for the rest of the T14.lawschoollll wrote:I don't think I did. Re: UChicago 2011
There was also an increase in the number of LSAT takers. If the test-takers conform to the curve, then yea, there should be more 173+ers, most of whom would presumably apply to (at least) all of the T6. Oh well, don't care anymore. Works for me.Sentry wrote:Just because there were significantly more apps doesn't mean that there were a significantly larger number of 173+ LSAT scorers. The super slight difference combined with lower 25th and lower lsat indicates random chance rather than a strategic changeacrossthelake wrote:Huh. LSAT dropped & GPA went up. Maybe high LSAT applicants were crowding C/N because of merit aid or whatever, and lower LSAT but high GPA applicants didn't have the same options. So the yield included more high GPA splitters.

I'm not sure if this is correct, but it is what I choose to believer6_philly wrote:Maybe high LSAT applicants were crowding C/N because of merit aid or whatever, and lower LSAT but high GPA applicants didn't have the same options. So the yield included more high GPA splitters.

Re: UChicago 2011
Does anyone have any thoughts on how important early apps are for Chicago, given that they take until late December to get back to us?
I've been hoping for a fee waiver but nothing yet. I almost want to wait for the October LSAT round of fee waivers for Chicago (I have the numbers, but no waiver), but it might be me being penny wise and pound foolish. The app is ready to send, so the difference is between late October and, say, before Thanksgiving (the latest I'd wait is about Nov 15th).
I'm broke, btw.

This is totally your call, but they definitely utilize a rolling admissions process. The Real Jack McCoy wrote:Does anyone have any thoughts on how important early apps are for Chicago, given that they take until late December to get back to us?

IIRC, your numbers are stellar, so it probably wouldn't hurt you to wait (don't hold me to that, it's just my opinion and I don't remember your exact stats.) My thought on fee waivers is this, though: yes, application fees are terrible. Yes, they are expensive. But you are also about to spend over a HUNDRED THOUSAND dollars on a legal education. Giving yourself the best chance at a school is probably worth the $75-$80, in the long run.Chicago FAQ wrote:All completed files are then assigned to the Admissions Committee for review and are generally read in the order they were completed.

Re: UChicago 2011
Yes BUT I get to spend that $75 now rather than later!
(The question was more for scholarship chances, as I'd have a hard time justifying Chicago at sticker. I just don't know if 2 weeks would have an effect on scholarship chances, thought I get that $75 might not be worth the risk)
Anyways, I've been persuaded. It's just an annoying $75 to spend--I am pretty high on Chicago, have the stats, and could have really used the waiver. I'll switch from rice to used newspapers I guess.

I actually think this is the one time when just 2 weeks WILL have an effect on scholarship chances. Think about the swarm of people who will submit right after October scores come out; they will ALL be ahead of you in line, as they were completed first. The Real Jack McCoy wrote:Yes BUT I get to spend that $75 now rather than later!

Re: UChicago 2011
Wait.. Im confused. Chicago doesn't make decisions until late Dec. Why would it affect his scholarship chances to wait til early to mid november?? Have you all heard that scholarship decisions are made as they review individual applications and sent out with admit decisions?
Seriously? What are you waiting for?
Now there's a charge.
Just kidding ... it's still FREE!
