Don't 'throw one together.' An obviously quickly done/insincere sounding one will hurt you more then a good one will help you.

And ATL, IIRC, your numbers made you a virtual lock at Duke, didn't they?

Understood. My point was Duke might have wanted the Why? essay from those with less strong #s.

Good point. It's also important for yield protection as well though. In general I think Why X essays are good if it's genuine, but probably not very helpful if generic.
Fixed and +1

ATL if you don't mind, what are your numbers? (I really don't want to write a why duke essay, an honest essay would say- you are my fallback school and I hope to bank on you admitting me quickly so I can put my mind at ease)

For what its worth- I am 173 3.99. I'd like to hear back from a school quick though, that would be so nice

Hi All!

My Duke status checker was updated today to "Decision made: check for email," though I've yet to receive any email. I do, however, have "Admission Packet" listed under mailings.

To the people placed on reserve: do you also have an admissions packet listed under mailings or is this an indication that I was accepted?

Thanks and good luck everyone!

I'm In! 3.99 and 171, decision came 1 week after the app was submitted!

And I didn't even have to write a "why duke"

I'm in, as well! No Why Duke, but GPA and LSAT both above 75th percentiles.

I was "priority waitlisted"... Not sure what that means, but this has definitely given the rest of my application process a negative coloring. I wish they included explanations with waitlists/rejections.

"For your applications to other schools, we recommend not using LOR #2...Thank you for using us as your application test-run."

I suppose I see the incentive in not providing such explanations.

I got the "You're In" email on 9/3 and it said "admissions packet mailed" on 9/13. I got the packet a few days later. I'm assuming that means you're in, why would they send an admissions packet otherwise? Congrats :)

Ha ha, of course it's a dream within a dream, though it's funny, my LOR #2 is exactly what I was worried about.

day 2 of PT, I don't know if I can wait 8 more days. I really hope I don't get waitlisted.

Waitlisted is the worst, I think I would rather be rejected. At least then you can stop worrying about it.

I had to submit RD because I didn't get the PT invite, so I guess my waiting officially begins again. Someone said RD gets looked at pretty quick this early, I hope that's true.

They responded to my first email but not the second. I already had everything done so I just submitted it (it was more than a week).

Gah, you can request a priority track invitation? I didn't even think of this. Oh well. They didn't give me one last year so I doubt they would have this year.
