1) have the option of deferring? (I'm guessing no, but never saw any Columbia-specific info)
2) have only 48 hours to say yes or no like at some schools?
I'm trying to decide if I can realistically stay on the Columbia reserve list. The two-body problem is making flexibility difficult to achieve.
Thanks for any input!

I want the answers to these questions too. It seems like it would be hard to expect somebody to move across the country on 2 month's notice.

Aww, don't despair! Remember that Reserve is unranked, and there's a reason for that. I distinctly recall someone saying in another thread (the Columbia thread?) that when they look to the Reserve Pool and pick applicants, they choose applicants who most resemble the ones they lost so as to keep the composition of the class as they intended it. So, unless you come across someone in this thread who is your doppleganger in nearly every respect, there's little point in making comparisons.
Just trying to do my part to keep hope alive. It's going to be a long Spring...

So what we really should be doing is scouring the Columbia admitted thread for people who match our credentials in every way, and then plotting to make them disappear... ::schemes::

Put on reserve via snail-mail today. 175/3.6 without very good softs.
Sorry, I was the one who accidentally upped the reserve thread from last year. Am I right in thinking this thread should be subtitled "abandon all hope ye who enter here?"

No...it can be called: "Project Get Rid of all who have been accepted to Columbia"

Reserve 2day, April 10th. 170/3.95. I was a LATE applicant, so no surprise here. Just happy not to be auto-rejected!

I like the positive attitude on this page!! Good luck to all of us
It's a good sign that we weren't automatically dinged though, right? At least there was something they liked, or...not enough stuff they didn't like.

Oh also, on my letter it said not to call them and to write to the Dean with any questions or concerns. Is that what you guys are doing, or are you emailing??

Are you guys sending LOCIs? or you think filling out the reserve form is sufficient?

I think many of us have opted for LOCIs. I emailed mine the day I got my Reserve letter and they sent an acknowledgement email letting me know it would be added to my file. I suppose it can't hurt since they said they would look over all the files in full again come May.

honestly, i didn't LOCI. I figured me remaining on the reserve list was enough to let them know i wanted consideration...especially considering i have NOTHING new to offer them other than what they already have. ("late" app, complete late Feb).
"Dear Columbia, Since I applied, I have continued to work the same mind-numbingly tedious and brainless job. But I promise I haven't gotten that much stupider. I will go to Columbia even if you call me in September and classes have started. Sincerely, Me" didn't sound impressive. I guess it is what it is.

Did anyone who sent a LOCI via snail mail receive an acknowledgment? Or is that just for email?

Add me to the reserve list too. I was put on hold in February, and only got my reserve letter yesterday. I hope the posts about stats are right because I know mine are on the low side for Columbia (168/3.74).

Question: would sending a long (long) LOCI with specific reasons for Columbia (and new info) be considered odd at this point?

Ah, the working world. Certainly does make you jealous of all those scurrying undergrads who have new grades, society memberships, grad honors to add. Not like I think it really moves the needle much-- if you're top 10% you're going to get Phi Beta Kappa so it doesn't really convey any new information-- but it just feels like your update is doing more. I read in an HLS blog it's important to "stay active" on the WL, so I plan on doing that with Harvard. However, I don't really imagine I'll stay on Reserve here past the 1st wave, so you guys should have another spot open.
Seriously? What are you waiting for?
