162. 3.8 Berkeley grad. URM. Held. Do I even belong haha? All of your numbers seem AMAZING. Columbia has been my dream dream forever but I'm slowly dying from hope. I got into Berkeley and was wondering if I should mention this in my LOCI? Thoughts? i also got a 130k scholly at Wash U (not sure whether I should mention this either).

If Columbia held you, then you belong. No one put a gun to their head about putting you on hold. We're close to numbers twins, although I'm not URM, and also in at Berkeley. Good luck to both of us. Wonder if holds will start hearing before April 30th this year.

I heard earlier this week that I've been taken off hold and accepted. I sent a snail mail LOCI, an extra letter of recommendation, an email update, and had a Columbia connection at my university call in specifically about me. Seems to have paid off

I did and posted in the columbia 2010 thread. I was admitted. Was held in March and told that I would hear back by April 21st, but they were early, and I'm very happy.

Ok, I feel kind of silly asking this question, but did Columbia officially notify you all of being on hold? I haven't heard anything from Columbia - no acceptance, no rejection, no wait list. They just say that my app is UR.

+1. My guess is, the rise in applications led to a backlog. Patience is the name of the game.

Many people view ED deferrals as a soft rejection, and holds as a future waitlist (also a soft rejection) with a slight chance of acceptance.
