I'm serious. It's hard enough to get people to leave the country for law school.

It's a lot higher in T14 schools. If anything we are over represented by a whole lot.
My section is about 20% Asian.

I thought TLS was a hate-free zone. Racism still lives.

This also merits the "welcome to TLS pic," but I don't know where to find it.

Thank you for welcoming me to the community. 8) I was only introduced to the internet four years ago, so I still haven't acclimated to this whole "facetious edginess" that internet message boards are so famous for. As to my comment on racism - I grew up apartheid south africa so I'm very sensitive to these kinds of race issues.

EDIT: I don't know why this is being displayed like this. The computer told me that I cannot put more than four quotes inside.

TBF, it's gotten much better. There used to be absolutely ridonkulous (on both sides) debates about AA. For all the charges of fascism leveled against the mods, I vastly prefer the tighter control they've implemented (and I'm sure new members looking for information rather than low brow debate do too).

Is TLS affiliated with the bass federation? I'm confused.

We're over represented, if anything.

I'm surprised these threads still go to 40 posts. Asians do not get a blanket URM label, unless a particular school is gerrymandering the racial makeup of its incoming class in the interest of presenting a student body with 'diverse backgrounds'. I'm sure that happens...somewhere. Not much in T1/T2.

If you're from Laos or East Timor or Bhutan, you may get special consideration. If a school is interested in more international students (not asian-americans), you may get special consideration. I would highly doubt it would be equivalent to what african americans and latinos get. Really, just think of this reasonably, and do your best in your PS to bring out the unique qualities in your background and experience that would make an AdCom care. It's not by default.

titcr. Whether or not you count as a urm doesn't really affect your actions going forward.

I'm surprised there are still that many Asians in law schools. They're already well represented in medicine, finance, consulting, public accounting, engineering, IT, science, tech, entrepreneurship...I thought that's where the smartest Asians go.

Err, if you think the smartest Asians go to the other industries, then you could have answered your own question... What do you think every Asian is a "smartest Asian"? Maybe there are some Asians who are slightly less than "smartest"?

I don't agree with your assessment of Asians, it's just funny how you asked that question.

Again the term Asian is very fluid, as it could mean far east or south Asian. The latter is not well represented in law, and is skewed by the former in demographics that are reported by law schools. Here in the Northeast, law schools have a separate box for South Asian or Indian subcontinent.

This is completely false. Asians are not URM's, but whether or not an individual is a URM has large consequences on his or her actions going forward.

In deciding to which schools to apply? That's weak.

Seriously? What are you waiting for?

Now there's a charge.
