+1 if its targeted, it cant hurt.Neelio wrote:I sent a LOCI and had another rec lined up, but decided against it. I don't want to come off as annoying and add to their already dense reading load. Any thoughts on sending an additional recommendation, even though they didn't ask for it?

I prefer to send mine through email so you get a confirmation back right away. Also, if you are in the first FR, they would not get it in timedaviddel03 wrote:are you guys sending it via e-mail or postal mail?

Thanks! I mean, I don't really have anything new to add (no new transcripts or promotions at work or anything). I just want to let them know that although I have other acceptances, they're my #1 choice. Is that smart? Or should I just leave it alone?

I think it's smart... but in all honesty I think the effects of a LOCI will be minimal. But hey, a minimal positive effect is better than no effect at all. And I don't think there is any possible way it will have a negative effect on your application. I say fire away.daviddel03 wrote:Thanks! What responses did people get from emailing LOCI's? I just got the auto-response.

I feel like Berkeley gets so much more love than other schools. Part of this may be because we all think we have a chance because of their admissions process. Berkeley: PLEASE LET ME IN TOOOOO!
Also, I delivered a LOCI in person to make sure it got there before FR. People at the office were super nice, just made me want to go there even more.

I sent them an addendum back in November via email and didn't get a real confirmation until I emailed them again a couple of days after receiving the automated response. The person who responded seemed somewhat annoyed... but whateva. I just wanted to make sure they had placed it in my file.tintin wrote:aside from the auto-generated email that pops back whenever you send anything to berkeley, i never got a confirmation of my LOCI. should I call to confirm? did you guys get back a real confirmation?

That being said, last year's thread got a lot more stressful a lot faster... definitely worth looking at for great info (and debate) about sending additional LOCIs.

So yesterday was a bloodbath for applicants outside the protective Faculty cocoon... When do you suppose our own culling will begin? Think we will hear anything before the review deadline?

I responded to being placed on Faculty Review by preemptively rejecting them. (Really I was just worried they were about to tarnish my perfect cycle.)

Oh "Hey" Berkeley,
Looks like we're at an awkward place in our relationship. I mean...I practically threw myself at you, head over heels, in October. I got started on your app hella early, poured my heart into my PS, supplemented with a DS, and tailored the whole thing to show an abiding and demonstrated commitment to YOU. Sure, you got back to me - in January. And with a less-than-affectionate stock reply. I get it, berkeley: you've got a lot of suitors. And I understand that you can't please everyone.
I guess what I'm getting at, berkeley, is that...I like you. A whole lot. And even if you admit me well after the hundreds you've already admitted (and even if you do so to meet institutional interests that I can't control), ill still heart you.
Bottom line: I'm thinking about you, berkeley. Like "woah".

And does anyone know:
Is FR more about soft factors/ps than the dean admissions were? Is this where they take a holistic approach or are they just going o start with the 178 3.9s and work their way down until they have filled 200 spots?
