I got in recently, and just got a 60k merit award. This is awesome of course, but I also have a 120k offer from Michigan. I'm in at all the other t10 schools minus the top three, but haven't gotten fin aid offers from anyone else yet. Should I try to negotiate with UVA now, or should I wait to hear from other schools? How open do you think they will be to negotiating?

+1. The original acceptance package said offers would be going out in late February, so there's still time.herecomesthesun wrote:so jelly you've heardKiltedKicker wrote:Awesome, thanks. Did it? I legitimately don't remember, but I honestly wasn't paying that close attention. I got mine in October so maybe that was an updated one?jewkidontheblock wrote:+1. Ya, the waiting game is brutal. My app might've been an unusual circumstance though if that helps any. I'm a couple points above 75% LSAT and around 50% GPA, I applied early and had no movement until I reached out and showed interest. Because they were looking at my file again and we're close to when FA decisions are going out they may have just decided to give me my offer now. I'd guess more non-named offers are coming soon.herecomesthesun wrote:Did it? I legitimately don't remember, but I honestly wasn't paying that close attention. If we're being completely honest, I checked mine too but because anxiety I can't read apparently. But yeah, in comparison with last year's (at least, I'm too lazy to really explore it) we're nowhere near the volume of scholarships (both named and otherwise) that went out. I'd wager they're still goingjewkidontheblock wrote:Mine came in October too, checked the letter the other day because anxiety.herecomesthesun wrote:Did it? Has anyone been brazen enough to contact FinAid re: a scholly offer or timeline? I am seriously considering doing so.

Admissions offices aren't the black boxes you guys think they are....doobleykah wrote:feelsbadmanlymenheimer wrote:RIPdoobleykah wrote:Has anyone been brazen enough to contact FinAid re: a scholly offer or timeline? I am seriously considering doing so.

Effect, to the extent they explained the timeline to me? Yes.herecomesthesun wrote:Did it have any effect?James.K.Polk wrote:Admissions offices aren't the black boxes you guys think they are....doobleykah wrote:feelsbadmanlymenheimer wrote:RIPdoobleykah wrote:Has anyone been brazen enough to contact FinAid re: a scholly offer or timeline? Effect, to the extend that I've heard back either way? No.
People will ask - "January and February 2016" are when the "bulk" of scholarship decisions will be reached. I mentioned my standing scholarship offers and they said those would be taken under consideration when they make their decisions.

Hmm, sorry, I realize now that was unclear. You may have posted this, but what was the timeline?James.K.Polk wrote:Effect, to the extent they explained the timeline to me? Sent my app on Oct. 7, and my status has not changed since going UR on Oct. 8. This is not good for my mental state to say the least.

Try to hang in there. I know it's tough. The good news is that we are getting late in the season, so everything should be shaking out pretty well by the end of the month.gazorpazorp wrote:Sent my app on Oct. 7, and my status has not changed since going UR on Oct. 8. If you applied ED, how likely is it to receive an acceptance closer to the 15th day vs on the 15th day

So I called financial aid this morning and it was indicated to me that they only do emails regarding financial aid--but I thought they handled scholarships?
