Yeah, it still shows loans, just not any scholarships or grants. If you sent in your FAFSA, you should be fine. I'd contact UVA's Fin Aid office if you're having problems.erwuxvcm wrote:Can someone who got $0 tell me what it looks like? I applied for Finaid (I thought I did, anyways) and when I log in and click 'view financial aid' I still see 'Inquiry access denied.' I also didn't get an email. If you get $0, does it at least show loans?
I'm worried that I somehow actually didn't apply for financial aid, even though I sent in my FAFSA.

Re: UVA c/o 2020 Applicants (2016-2017)
You could be right, but I was pretty adamant about really wanting UVA in particular. I had a number of different reasons (wrote a Why UVA), including family in the area and wanting to do PI in DC. Interviews are generally my strong suit, and I thought this one went well, but I guess you never really know. Part of me is wondering if they thought I had the GI Bill, and that played into it.theboringest wrote:I'm gonna echo this. I got a 75% scholarship with dead median numbers, non URM. My Why UVA and talk with admissions had to have played a huge factor in the scholly I got. Seems like UVA is really looking for people who want UVA this year.Finickywalrus wrote:I received a 75% scholarship with LSAT >75 and GPA >25 non URM, which was much higher than what mylsn predicted. This is pure speculation but I think the interview played a huge role. When my interviewer asked what UVA should know about me (the final elevator pitch question) I made a genuine appeal for "why UVA" while still being funny/not too intense. My interviewer said it was a "very good answer" and we seemed to get along very well. Obviously my stats helped, but this scholarship far exceeds anything I've received at other schools.CenterFringe wrote:I guess no financial aid from UVA. I'm pretty surprised, all things considered. I hope I didn't screw something up. I was accepted back in October with good numbers, and I thought I saw people getting close to full ride with my numbers on LSN. Any idea what gives?
Maybe you can appeal and ask for another interview? It's a great medium to come off as down to earth and someone they would like to have at the school. Otherwise another loci maybe? Mention something more than just the clinics. Admissions people like to hear about the unique things like softball and beers on the quad. Also, the interviewer seemed impressed with some of the things I've done in my current position so if you have something like that, it could be helpful.
In any case, maybe it's divine providence. I was (surprisingly) accepted into Harvard but really wouldn't have wanted to turned down a full ride to UVA, so I guess it all works out.

If you're saying UVA would sill be under your consideration with a substantial scholarship, have you communicated that to admissions?CenterFringe wrote:

If you're already admitted they've already lost you for yield protection as things stand. What's the harm in a letter clarifying that you don't have any other funding, have an acceptance to Harvard but would prefer to be at UVA with a scholarship?

If the SIS website does not currently show an award (I was accepted two weeks ago) is now the right time to start emailing to negotiate? Or is it still possible that something could show up? I have a 100k offer from Michigan which will be hard to turn down without a matching offer

Good luck with your negotiations, but there's a lot of us with much better offers from Michigan than from UVAckb614 wrote:If the SIS website does not currently show an award (I was accepted two weeks ago) is now the right time to start emailing to negotiate? I mean, I'd rather end up at UVA (top choice), but if I can't work out a deal with them, it's probably just not going to work out. Hard to turn down an offer that is $100k better at time of repayment.ckb614 wrote:It's looking like I will see a lot of you in Ann Arbor this fall

I'm cross-posting this to the admitted students thread too (sorry, I know there are a lot of you sweating for interviews over here and I'm wishing you the very best, quick news from C'Ville!). The time for negotiating scholarships is here. How do you all plan to do this for UVA? Should I email the Office of Financial Aid, or is this more of a phone call situation?

There was a post in the fb group on Friday that told us to direct scholarship appeals to the scholarship committee through lawadmit (at) Virginia.edu... let me know if you guys hear otherwise and how the negotiations go!S.Picquery wrote:I emailed my interviewer and was basically like "you said to contact if I had any questions... who /specifically/ do I talk to about FinAid. Does anyone else still see something like "inquiry access denied" when they try to look at their financial aid?
