I guess Attansio finally figured out his job is to raise the school's ranking, not preach on about the number of CEO's in Fortune 50 companies and what famous people are SMU grads.

Re: SMU 2011
Is Wesleyan generally stingy with scholarship money? With cfrog's numbers so far above their medians it seems like he/she would get more money than that.cfrog11 wrote:Yes, 15,000 a year.Thirteen wrote:With money?cfrog11 wrote:I guess it's TWU for me.cfrog11 wrote: 3.7/163 . . . waitlisted.
I wonder because I was offered $35,000 over three years at Wesleyan with slightly lower numbers. I thought I would get more.
I was set on staying in this area, so SMU and TWU were my top two choices. I applied to SMU FT/PT and TWU FT. I was certain I would have a hard decision to make; I thought I would get a generous offer from Wesleyan and PT at SMU. Three years at Wesleyan with little or no debt versus four years at SMU with considerably more debt would make for a difficult decision. As I hoped, I was accepted PT at SMU. What I didn't expect was that SMU offered more total scholarship money. Wesleyan made my decision an easy one.

Since they are both in Dallas can't you go with twu while waiting to hear if you get off the waitlist? It seems a lot easier than having your #2 in another city or state.

Also got waitlisted today. Not too big a deal, as New Mexico gave me a full ride. But, it still hurts a little bit.

Re: SMU 2011
I have a buddy who lives in Dallas near SMU that commutes to TWU Law. For those of you unfamiliar with the metroplex, Ft. Worth most definitely =/= Dallas in terms of time. His DART commute is brutal. However, wifi on the trains probably helps with studying.
Good luck to those of you who are still held and/or have been WL'ed. I feel your pain--I went through two cycles of SMU's snail-like pace ...

Are they going to be sending us any information on their wait list procedures? Several other schools had me fill out a form, etc. and then let me know when and how they'd start picking people up off the wait list.

Re: SMU 2011
I submitted my application in Jan. (3.2/162) but due to my LOR writer not getting his letter in for a two months past that and a miscommunication between LSAC and SMU where SMU didnt think they had my report my application wasnt completed until early March. Everyone is hearing things this week yet here i am still "application completed"

What did you write for your "why SMU" statement?

No felonies... One scholorship probation because I dropped a class in undergrad one semester, but that's all. Only other thing I can figure is that because I decided late to apply this year, my application was right at the regular decision deadline, and my essays were all a little rushed/weak. Also, one of my three LOR's got lost in the mail and by the time I was informed by LSAC that I should have it re-sent, it was way too late for it to really matter.A12345 wrote:Are you a felon? Kind of split between academic record, wanting to stay in Dallas because my wife has a career here, and really liking the structure of their first year because it affords more opportunities for genuine peer relationshipsdavid787 wrote:What did you write for your "why SMU" statement?

hmm that's pretty strong reasoning and great numbers, I'm guessing the late/sloppy application was the problem. Perhaps if you write a quality LOCI it would help. You should be able to get in next year if you apply in November with a better essay.

Thanks for the advice and encouragement. I'm still forcing myself to be optimistic at least until I get something official in the mail.david787 wrote:hmm that's pretty strong reasoning and great numbers, I'm guessing the late/sloppy application was the problem. Honestly, at this point the tough decision I'm hoping doesn't come up is if a spot opens up (with presumably no scholarship), do I take it now or apply early next year with a considerably better chance at halving my tuition costs for the next three years...

Well, I just called them. They said their deposit deadline is June 1st and that the earliest they'd pull people off is mid-June. They said they keep the waitlist until the first day of school and accept people as applications open.

I wouldn't let a 167 go to waste. Work on some stellar essays and apply again this fall. You should get some $ from SMU and probably acceptances at other schools of interest. Do something productive to make some $ on your off year. Are you an undergrad or recent grad or older?

+1. Honestly, waiting a year would probably be good. You get some time off to decompress, save up some money, and get all of your applications out by november.david787 wrote:I wouldn't let a 167 go to waste. I graduated 2.5 years ago. If school doesn't work out this year, I've got a photography business to keep me busy, and will probably substitute teach as well. The frustrating part, as it always is, is just the waiting.david787 wrote:I wouldn't let a 167 go to waste. Work on some stellar essays and apply again this fall. Re: SMU 2011
Well, they finally got back to me.
WL 163/3.69. I wrote a pretty strong "Why SMU"? statement along with being a Dallas native. This really, really, really hurts. I really wanted to move back to Dallas.
I'm at a loss for what to do now. I suppose a LOCI and wait some more.
