For anyone who did not see this:

I called and was explicitly told that it is not a hold, or a waitlist, or anything like that.

"It is just a courtesy email to let you know that we are still working on your application and ask for your patience," is what I was told by the adcomm.

well this totally backfired then, cause the email just caused me to lose all hope in and jump ship entirely. wtg Mich!

agreed. just makes me shrug and be like, whatever. no biggie.

Thanks!! I think it was under review as of 1/5 and then had a decision status on 1/11 and got it in the mail today

PMed you, can you get into the admitted students site and did you before today?

How early did the folks who were "held" apply? I sent my application in 11/4, went complete 12/2 and haven't heard a peep since. I'm assuming that the holds might have been for folks who applied or went complete earlier (?), or perhaps that they haven't even bothered to pick up my app yet, or worse.

Nah, he/she pmed me saying the site didn't work right away. Not sure why this would be a flame? Michigans status checker does delete the previous status. My excitement is still about 1%... Until letter is hand I don't count anything either good or bad as a sure thing.

who does that? acceptance letter is for Fall of 2010...comes in a plastic folder type number with a history of umich book...says info on accepted student days March 11 or March 25 would be in the mail next week...Orientation is Aug 30 and class starts Sept 7

We are just stressed, because we went DR 1/11/09 and can't get into admitted students site, which in the past means a rejection. However, if someone DR 1/11/09 is in it may not mean a rejection. So he is doubtful of you. I reserve my judgment because I am not excited by the news.

I asked this earlier but no replies due to the fact that the "hold" emails came out at the same time. But i applied over a month ago. Should I email and ask about the status checker and my application or just wait longer? Most people got theirs in about 3 weeks... im going on 5.

Applied in early October and just got the hold email. Above both 75ths and wrote a Why Mich. Pretty good softs + essays (as evidenced by the early Harvard acceptance I got despite less than stellar numbers by Harvard's standards).

New theory: Michigan is actively trying to fall in the 2011 USWR ranking. Who needs to be ranked 9 anyway? Besides, georgetown has been 14 for long enough. Their strategy: not accepting anyone with numbers above median. It just might work.
