Does anyone know anything about how ED deferrals have fared in the past. I've searched around in last years threads but couldn't find anything. Anyone?

Gah sorry, I'm not trying to be dramatic, I'm just realllly hoping for NYU, and the wait is making me so nervous! Hopefully the complete e-mail is just neutral.

Depends on the school, Managamy. Cooley...not so much. I have the exact same numbers. I submitted on 12/7, went complete on 1/12. Haven't heard anything. I'm praying.tarheel wrote:So, I submitted 12/12, got a received e-mail on 12/22, and just today got a complete e-mail. Does this seem bad? Re: NYU 2010
It is. They admit a new batch every week, and there are at least six weeks of regular admissions left in the cycle, plus some stragglers in late March and into April. You'll begin to have a shot at admission next week, although the people who get in after just one week tend to be auto-admits. I wouldn't worry until it's been at least three or four weeks since your complete date.tarheel wrote:scribelaw wrote:Those are NYU's median numbers. My numbers are above their median and well above their 75th, respectively, and I missed the first week of admits for my complete group. I just got in yesterday.

Well, I hope you both get in, but there's no evidence to suggest a 3.7/171 stands any worse chance this year than last year. The numbers are right at the median, so you're borderline obviously, but the majority will either get in or get a WL. Many have already gotten in with similar numbers: http://nyu.lawschoolnumbers.com/stats/0910/redhead77 wrote:well, they seem to be a stretch this year. those are my numbers and i've been waiting since november, assuming a ding.scribelaw wrote:Those are NYU's median numbers. Re: NYU 2010
I think all schools are anticipating an increase in applications. To ensure that they offer admission to the best candidates available, it is logical for the schools to wait until they can determine the precise total population of applicants before they can set a guideline on admission offers so they can distribute the offers to the best candidate pool. I don't feel that waiting longer this year necessarily mean that you are going to be rejected. You may end up competing with a bigger pool of candidates with similar numbers, you may not. Schools are just holding decisions until later so they can cover themselves.
Now, if rejection numbers are higher than before but yet conform to past numbers, it is a good sign, that means some of the increase applications are of lower quality. If less applications have been rejected, or if the rejected apps are of higher quality, then those remaining are presumed to be facing tougher (and perhaps more) competition.

Called NYU today just for peace of mind, and the admissions person told me that I went complete on 2/2 even though I didn't get an e-mail. Quite a relief.

Not to be too literal or too pessismistic, but at the 171, 3.7 range of accepts, a lot of the green triangles on that graph are URM or ED. But I suppose I'm holding out hope, so thanks for keeping it alive!scribelaw wrote:Well, I hope you both get in, but there's no evidence to suggest a 3.7/171 stands any worse chance this year than last year. Yeah, I think I'm sort of expecting a rejection/waitlist. Even then, I wouldn't worry. Top schools are really unpredictable with the timing of their decisions.BenJ wrote:

I checked on LSN and saw a few rejections, but not nearly as many as I was expecting given how long NYU's been giving decisions. Is the consensus that rejections haven't really started to come out yet, except for a handful of outliers?

I think that's the case for 99% of law schools right now.Lermontov wrote:I checked on LSN and saw a few rejections, but not nearly as many as I was expecting given how long NYU's been giving decisions. Also, wishful thinking, but does NYU ever give out scholly money even if you didn't specifically apply for one of their scholarships?

Seems like they do... Also, there were other amounts listed for other 08-09 applicants.
