Re: UCLA? 2011
Just declined my admission offer. I feel really terrible about it, because Dean Schwartz and the other adcomms are some of the nicest people I have ever met and were extremely helpful during my decision-making process. I would have loved to attend UCLA, but unfortunately, financial factors have played a bigger role that I wanted. Hope my spot goes to someone still waiting to hear or on the WL. Good luck!

Re: UCLA? 2011
I'm just a bit perplexed why UCLA is yield protecting up the ass and their wait list system is just as opaque as their admissions process. But maybe i'm just pissed i got wait listed.

oh ok. so i think you should finish your sentence. The tireless, hardworking adcom is working late hours, and therefore ...?JD=Doctor wrote:Me? ...no troll, i did see him as i was studying (as it is midterms time in ucla) outside (it was quite a nice afternoon weather-wise) and happened to be between the the lawschool and what was most likely his parking lot.

Re: UCLA? 2011
For those of you who received scholly money, when did it arrive? I got my package last Friday and haven’t received any other info. I sent the admissions office and Dean Schwartz an email Tuesday evening, asking them to match some of my other scholarships but I haven’t heard back yet (anyone know how long the turnaround time takes on this?). I REALLY want to go to UCLA, but I can’t justify taking them at sticker over Texas or Vandy when those two have given me $70,000+, and UCLA hasn’t given me anything – no grant money either.
Come on UCLA, help me escape the cold of Pennsylvania and head to the dreamland that is California!

Just received the Wait List email. I thought that Cornell took forever, but UCLA certainly set the bar pretty high. Cycle is officially over.
FYI
Submitted early January, complete mid March.

Re: UCLA? 2011
Just got an email with a $45,000 scholly. Damn. It's something, but now I gotta decide if it's enough to take them over UT and Vandy. I WANT to attend UCLA and would take them over my other choices all things being equal but it may cost me $30-$40k more than my other options and that's assuming I get in-state my 2L and 3L years. Ugh.

Re: UCLA? 2011
I think getting in-state is supposed to be pretty easy for 2L and 3L. That being said, I agree that is a big difference in $ (will end up being about 60k more once it is all paid out). I say you reach out to them again and express how much you want to go there but that you just can't afford to go with that sort of disparity in $ and see if they can bump you up. Never hurts to push (now that you're in they won't kick you out! ha-ha).BoomBoom1986 wrote:Just got an email with a $45,000 scholly. Damn. It appears that someone else now got in off the waitlist at UCLA. I guess they are starting to take people? Are there still people out there who applied and have not heard anything?

Re: UCLA? 2011
I'm still waiting to hear back for an initial decision, went complete 11/3.
I called them on 5/2 and they encouraged me to call back if I hadn't heard anything by mid-May. Last Thursday I got an e-mail from the director of the Critical Race Specialization I wrote an addendum for and we had a 35 minute phone interview yesterday. (I'm currently abroad in Spain so it took a few days for our schedules to line up).
Still just as confused as ever as to when I'll hear anything, but at least they're in there doing some sort of review of the applications?

Not very much and it's not worth locking yourself to one school and closing off any possibility to negotiate financial aid. The only circumstance you should ED is if you're under the 25th percentiles and you absolutely would go to UCLA, even at sticker.legaleagle9 wrote:just wondering: how much does ED'ing help one get admittance to UCLA?

Thank you very much everyone. I'm not revealing numbers or anything else for confidentiality reasons. Excellent "softs" (work experience, leadership, etc.) and stellar recommendation letters from professors and employers. Good luck to everyone on the wait list!
