Well, they are asking us to hand over more than a quarter million dollars for the privilege of attending their institution. Which, coupled with the fact that numerous similar applicants were actually awarded something, isn't the chillest thing in the world.RParadela wrote:Damn, you'd expect UVA Law killed some of your family members by the reactions ITT

Re: UVA c/o 2020 Applicants (2016-2017)
What does me having an offer from S have to do with this? UVA didn't know that. I'm allowed to be a little pissed/disappointed/insulted that they think my attendance at their institution is worth $0 haha. I wasn't expecting a lot by any means, but $0 is stingy IMHO. The fact that less than half the class gets any aid is stingy IMHO.mrgstephe wrote:I mean let's be real. You got into S and have had a ridiculous cycle so far. Your numbers definitely don't guarantee money from UVA (we have exactly the same, but I'm .01 GPA lower) given that less than half the class gets any aid. Even if they had offered you something, it would have been in the 50k range, and clearly with that offering, S is a superior choice.katthegreat11 wrote:I kind of want to submit my withdrawal immediately, just so they know exactly what it is a result of (them being stingy fools).

Wow, guys, I'm so sorry to everyone who didn't get anything from UVA!! That sucks!
I'm now shocked that I got such a generous offer. Although, according to the financial aid award I was given loans for full tuition in addition to a scholarship? Does that make any sense???

Man I need an alt account or something lol how does everyone know/remember I got into SLS?bloomsday wrote:"Stanford" is negotiating leverage, if you want to get money from UVA.katthegreat11 wrote:That's exactly how I feel, there's no chance, and no negotiating leverage, so might as well give my spot to someone willing to pay sticker.Leliana wrote:I'm drafting an email at the momentkatthegreat11 wrote:I kind of want to submit my withdrawal immediately
I mean better to withdraw earlier rather than later... could free up some spots from the WL.
I meant that $0 at UVA doesn't help me negotiate with other schools, not that I had no leverage to negotiate money at UVA.

Aw I'm sorry that sucks, maybe you can negotiate with those higher options!Dovaking wrote:Yeah I am pretty bummed since this was my number 1 the whole time. I have higher ranked options, but this is pretty bummy since I registered for ASW already and felt pretty committed.

You aren't entitled to scholarship money from UVA. I understand being disappointed, but acting like UVA somehow owes you money is ridiculous.forum_user wrote:Well, they are asking us to hand over more than a quarter million dollars for the privilege of attending their institution. Any chance that we'll be able to negotiate for any substantial money if only given loans? Either with higher ranked schools or better scholly offers.

Does anyone feel like those who applied early in the cycle got the short end of the financial aid stick? People who applied later in the cycle with my exact same numbers got money.

Re: UVA c/o 2020 Applicants (2016-2017)
I don't think it's just a numbers game. I applied early in the cycle and ED. My numbers aren't anything earth-shattering (25<GPA<50, 75<LSAT), and I wasn't really expecting anything based on all of those data points. I got 60k on what I can only assume is my resume.pizzagoblin wrote:Does anyone feel like those who applied early in the cycle got the short end of the financial aid stick? Are there people who still haven't gotten their info yet? When I click on "View Financial Aid," it says that there's no information to be found...nothing about loans or scholarships/lack thereof

Seems like it from the ones I've seen, subject to maintaining a minimum GPA that doesn't indicate gross negligence.Catsinspace wrote:Wait so can we assume that what we were awarded for 1 year will apply the next 2? Seems like a big assumption..
