I see there is no CSS required so I am wondering if I can just sit back and wait until I hear something from them (i.e. I get admitted or rejected) or if I need to fill out some other forms. Additionally, is parental information required for the FAFSA for them?
if you're admitted they send you a link to their financial aid site
So even if I don't hear anything back before March I can just sit tight? I see that a lot of schools have March 1st deadlines so I am just panicking a bit that I won't hear anything from them before then and will have missed the deadlines.
I didn't see any deadline, but they did make it clear that it should be done quickly. FAFSA requires parent's info unless you're over 29 I believe.
From my understanding basically every school requires you to put your parent's info in the fasfa/css profile if you want to be considered for need based aid. It's not like the FASFA itself gives a a damn. To take out graduate loans just file as an independent with the Fasfa, esp. if you already have your bachelors.
Say school X gives you a full ride in merit aid. Then full out the FASFA however you want to just get loans to cover cost of living.
Say that same school gives you $0 merit aid upfront. Fill out all the forms they require (including parent info unless you are exempt). Get your need based grant award from the school + whatever in loans.
But then again say the school gives you 50-80% in merit aid. That's when you evaluate your personal situation and decide to provide parent info in the hopes of getting more in need based aid. Or if you have rich parents who you figure will disqualify you for more aid or a strained relationship with them etc.. You can decide to just fill the gaps with loans, you don't need permission to do that.
Again Fasfa doesn't care if your parents are millionaires when you are a graduate student because to get federal money while pursuing a grad degree you don't need to provide parent info.
But if you want need based aid, follow the school's instructions.
