I hate this attitude on TLS. I get it, but it's rude. I'm considering all of my options and talking it through on here, trying to figure out finaid and if this is a doable option. I will narrow it down as quickly as I can so other people can get spots I withdraw from, but nowhere did I say I wasn't considering or don't "really want" GULC. I've visited the campus, sat in on class, went on a tour, etc.

Yeah, it's only February. It's not like you're waiting until the deposit deadline.

I know you didn't mean to come off as a "dick" when discussing your $$ from NYU, but come on now. It's like someone getting 150k from UPenn and posting in the Notre Dame thread saying "Why is ND only giving me 84k? I got 150k from Penn!"

GULC is notoriously cheap and someone answered your question regarding that. No need to go on further and boast (albeit possibly unintentional on your part) about how you got the same amount from a much better school.

from looking at the scholly stuff on mylsn.info it looks like people get 50k with my numbers. Seriously? Not trying to be a dick but I got that much from NYU

That statement comes across as entitled. While you may not have meant it that way, that's the way it reads.

A better way would be to state, "I really liked GU when I visited, but I'll need a lot of money to attend. If they don't offer much $, and it appears that they aren't very generous, I'll withdraw quickly."

Okay... I can't really find this anywhere, but what is the yellow form really for? Well, my real question is whether I need to fill it or not. I don't want any loans. GULC is considering me for merit scholarship, do I still need to fill out the yellow form. The sign in website says it's for LRAP, but I'm not interestedin that.

if you're a financial aid student at gulc, you will have to take out at least some loans. there are no (publicized) full-rides.

the financial aid officer and scholarship committee rep who were present at january's asw said everyone who needs financial aid will have to take out loans at GULC; the biggest award reported on TLS from gtown is $105k over 3 years- http://www.top-law-schools.com/forums/v ... 4&t=140796 - barely any admits get more than $90k, according to the reps at ASW.

so ... even if you get a lot of merit aid, you will have a significant amount of tuition/living expenses to pay, according to the reps. and don't expect to give you close to a full-ride through a combination of merit and need aid. GULC will give you either the total amount in your merit-aid or the total amount in your need-aid package — whichever is greater. but the school won't give you both packages.

you need to fill out the yellow form in order for georgetown to figure out your need-aid package. not filling it out would be disastrous, considering that your need-aid package could be larger than your merit-aid one (if you even get one).

Okay great! Thanks a lot, I wrongly thought it was just for loans. I'll fill them out soon then. I alos doubt I'll get a need-based grant. My parents are always on the border because they own a couple of houses to rent them out and the houses are considered as part of their wealth.

Also, it's not like it would be easy for them to pay. It'll significantly cut our budget especially since my brother is also being supported by them and needs to pay out of state tuition for undergrad.

I had the same question. I'm a scholarship finalist waiting to hear whether I'll get any merit $. I have some money saved also, so I don't plan on taking out any loans until 2L, maybe 3L. Do I need to fill out the yellow form now, before they give me any scholarship news, or can I wait until next month to do it? (Also, highly doubt I'd get any favorable grants based on parents income)

i applied in november and im not applying for financial aid. when do you think i will hear back? im going crazy. i heard from gwu and got an unsolicited merit scholarship there so im hoping that means i have shot with georgetown

Others who have participated in group interviews, can you give some insight on how a 10 person video conference works?It just doesn't seem efficient...

Rankings don't really matter, and 14 to 20 isn't that big of a jump. Especially when GULC's employment prospects don't warrant an extra $100k+ in debt.

14 to 20 is a chasm. And 37% highly favorable outcomes is a lot better (like 50%) than 25%. Won't argue about the 100k thing because that's up to the individual.

They aren't really peers though, GULC is solidly better IMO.

And yes, there is a big difference between 14 and whatever is below 14. T14 schools have always been in the top 14 and have a decided placement advantage into big law and clerkships and other highly desireable employment (other than some exceptions like Vandy last year vs GULC), everything below them just don't have the same placement power for the most part. Especially once you get past the Vandy, UT, USC, UCLA grouping.

I don't see what's snobby about that, just facts. GW is a nice school, but it's not GULC. Might it be more worth it for some people over GULC when you consider cost and their career aspirations? Sure!

I applied late, had an interview, and my application was held. I sent in a letter of continued interest and just received my acceptance. If your application was held, I recommend sending in a LOCI. I called the admissions office and they prefer it be sent via e-mail. I also want to say hang in there, I know the process is stressful but I wish everyone luck and if your application was held you still have a shot! Fingers crossed!

That's exactly what I wanted to check. I had my first status update since my initial complete date in early January. Do most people get multiple complete updates?

So the common knowledge is that admit comes through post and WL/rejections are done over email?
