What's the consensus on negotiating a scholarship at a lower ranked school based on a lesser scholarship from a much higher ranked school? Does this ever work?

Anyone try negotiating with Boston U. Law? I don't have any acceptances from better schools but got alot of money from tier 2 schools. Is conveying my real interest in attending while highlighting some achievments good enough to get more money? Also do I email admissions or financial aid? Someone specific at admissions or general admissions? Thanks guys

Attempting negotiations with 4 schools, 2 emails sent, 1 form submitted and waiting on those 3 before attempting the 4th. I'll keep this thread updated with results.

A couple schools require you to fill out a form to formally reserving your offer, even if you don't attend just so they have a preliminary way to force you to withdraw if you aren't really considering a school and free up some funds. Does reserving this forfeit your right to negotiate?

I already reserved my scholarship at one school and just emailed them asking for more money - they said they would get back to me in a couple days but also asked for my other offer letters. I'll let you know how it goes! I don't think this forfeits your right to negotiate.

+1 Whoever's name is on your original offer letter should be your first point of contact in most cases. They'll direct you to the right person if it's not them.

Got responses from both emails saying my scholarship would be re considered and requesting any additional information I could provide such as offers from other schools. Better than denials I suppose!

I know it's fairly late in the game, but I'd be curious to see how everyone felt about quick doing some last minute applications to some similarly ranked schools in hopes of getting a quick turnaround decision (hey it could happen) and a better offer...and then use those as leverage, of course. Some similar schools have deadlines coming up soon, and most are proactively waiving the fee, so it'd basically be a $30 gamble per school. What does everyone think - wise and prudent or foolish and stupid?

Really? I'm still waiting on initial offers from several schools. Specifically NU, which seems to want to be more generous this cycle, and Georgetown, which I'm starting to think doesn't want to offer me anything. Do t14s give aid later?

Lol well that would certainly be something. Neither are my top choice at the moment so wouldn't really be heartbroken.

Sorry if I missed this, but has anyone tried (successfully) to renegotiate after getting more money? Or is it taboo to try to get more money after the first increase?

Wondering if I could get some insight on how to best handle my situation.

I currently have a 35k/yr offer from GW, and they explicit state on their website that they will not reconsider initial scholarship decisions of 35k or more per year. However, I can still access their "scholarship reconsideration" form and I plan on sending one in anyway.

The deadline for sending in the reconsideration form is coming up fast - 3/15 - and I still do not have a scholarship from GULC. Do I send in the reconsideration form now (there is a space on the form to list current offers from other schools)... Or do I just wait until whenever GULC gets around to sending me an offer and then simply email GW?

I filled out the form a few weeks ago, and under the section where it asks about other schools/offers, I listed GULC/pending. I'd get the form in before the deadline, they can ask for more details later if need be. It can't hurt!

asked BU for a scholly reconsideration because my LSAT improved since my decision. They said thanks for bringing that to their attention and they were considering my need based application..they never acknowledged whether or not they were taking a look at my merit based again or not
