Have we decided how many updates to expect from GULC before they tell us? (assuming no interview)

Is the average less than that? I'm still at one post-complete update (so two total including the initial complete) and I'm wondering if I should start hunting down my mailman while watching my my status checker refresh with fearful eyes.TripTrip wrote:I don't think I've seen anyone get more than four... yet.zestylemon wrote:Have we decided how many updates to expect from GULC before they tell us? I was just going through the Admitted Students Website for the umpteenth time--has anyone contacted any of the first year student ambassadors? Is it worth an e-mail?

oh yea, I know I'm over analyzing, I've just never been the best at patiently waiting. probably true for most of us here honestly, can't think of much other reason for us to be doing this to ourselves!TripTrip wrote:You're overanalzying the... oh, forget it. I applied late, had an interview, and my application was held. I sent in a letter of continued interest and just received my acceptance. If your application was held, I recommend sending in a LOCI. I called the admissions office and they prefer it be sent via e-mail. I also want to say hang in there, I know the process is stressful but I wish everyone luck and if your application was held you still have a shot! Fingers crossed!

Re: Georgetown c/o 2016 Applicants (2012-2013)
so i just took a look at the yellow form and I'm not really sure what to do. Needs Access was fine b/c it let your parents do their stuff separately but the second part of this yellow form wants the equity value of any businesses your parents own? I don't think my dad will feel comfortable sharing this info and there's not a good way to have him log on to that page specifically, plus i don't really need him looking at my financial info.
Is there really no way around this and how much am i potentially screwing myself but just not doing this grant section?

So I e-mailed Georgetown last night asking for a an exemption from the non-custodial parent requirement for Need Access. Anyone else trying this? If so, any results?

Waitlisted via e-mail.
Do I have to send them any letter now or update deadlines in an e-mail in May when they send me an e-mail requesting reconfirmation?
Does anyone know what exactly "the deadlines" below mean? It is included in their decision notification e-mail.
"An e-mail will be sent to you in May, if not earlier, asking you to reconfirm your interest and update your contact information. Meanwhile, please update us on any approaching deadlines you may be facing."

+1. How stingy is stingy for GULC? I feel like with my stats I should be getting a decent amount of $ here. Although the more I think about it, the less and less this seems to be a good fit for me.

They're known for being pretty stingy. With GW right next door in rankings, location, and employment prospects, it seems kind of silly that most people who can get into GULC but would be paying sticker could also probably get a decent scholarship to GW.twinkletoes16 wrote:one_by_one wrote:Goddamn, the Yellow Form is a pain in the ass.

i talked to a rep for the scholarship committee, and she said they rarely give out more than $30k a year in merit aid. if i recall the facts and figures presentation from january's asw, need aid seems to be a little less than that, like 25k.twinkletoes16 wrote:one_by_one wrote:Goddamn, the Yellow Form is a pain in the ass.

According to LSN it looks like they sporadically and randomly give out money. Then again they don't look any more stingy than, say, Cornell for people with my numbers according to mylsn so it's possible that people just don't update because they have already withdrawn from Georgetown or just quit LSN by the time they get around to giving out scholarships.twinkletoes16 wrote:one_by_one wrote:Goddamn, the Yellow Form is a pain in the ass.

Mylsn.info can give you an idea of what to possibly expect.

In the age of transparency I can see saying they are somewhat close employment prospects wise but when have they ever been close rankings wise?alwayssunnyinfl wrote:They're known for being pretty stingy. from looking at the scholly stuff on mylsn.info it looks like people get 50k with my numbers. Seriously? Not trying to be a dick but I got that much from NYU.

Rankings don't really matter, and 14 to 20 isn't that big of a jump. Especially when GULC's employment prospects don't warrant an extra $100k+ in debt.BigZuck wrote: In the age of transparency I can see saying they are somewhat close employment prospects wise but when have they ever been close rankings wise?

14 to 20 is a chasm. And 37% highly favorable outcomes is a lot better (like 50%) than 25%. Won't argue about the 100k thing because that's up to the individual.alwayssunnyinfl wrote:Rankings don't really matter, and 14 to 20 isn't that big of a jump. They aren't really peers though, GULC is solidly better IMO.

Re: Georgetown c/o 2016 Applicants (2012-2013)
That's also very subjective. A lot of people aren't gunning for biglaw, or at least aren't looking to put themselves into biglaw debt for a 12% better chance at landing a biglaw job.BigZuck wrote:14 to 20 is a chasm. Then please withdraw and let other people who really want GULC get spots.twinkletoes16 wrote:vzapana wrote:i talked to a rep for the scholarship committee, and she said they rarely give out more than $30k a year in merit aid. if i recall the facts and figures presentation from january's asw, need aid seems to be a little less than that, like 25k.twinkletoes16 wrote:one_by_one wrote:Goddamn, the Yellow Form is a pain in the ass.

I hate this attitude on TLS. I get it, but it's rude. I'm considering all of my options and talking it through on here, trying to figure out finaid and if this is a doable option. I will narrow it down as quickly as I can so other people can get spots I withdraw from, but nowhere did I say I wasn't considering or don't "really want" GULC. I've visited the campus, sat in on class, went on a tour, etc.
Seriously? What are you waiting for?
