Those who have submitted financial aid materials, did you get any sort of confirmation or acknowledgement from Columbia that they had everything for the March 1 deadline? I had some initial back-and-forth by email with the FinAid office, but nothing since I sent in the last tax form. I think the silence probably means they now have everything they need, but I'm a little nervous, since for instance NYU sent a confirmation email after I did their FinAid app.

I emailed in the questionnaire after signing it and scanning it back in. Gonna assume it's okay unless they tell me otherwise.

I mailed everything by snail mail because that's what they told me to do (I didn't specifically ask about email or fax, though). I got it all prepared and in the mail already so even if email works, I've gone through the trouble to do snail mail and I'm sticking to it! (same with my parents...le sigh)

I honestly have almost never sent snail mail and will 99.9% screw it up if I have to.

I emailed them earlier this month and they told me they strongly discouraged emailing, but would accept it if you absolutely have to send it that way. They said they prefer fax or snail mail.

Obviously, any school reserves the right to do whatever they want. But we as applicants were led to believe that LSAT accounts for most of the admissions (except Y/S). "Unfair" is obviously the wrong word to use... but if LSAT doesn't guarantee anything.....What are we supposed to do...?

If soft factors are becoming increasingly more important... how are people without $$$ who must work multiple jobs to support themselves supposed to have a chance? Just quit my job and go make a difference in the world?

If soft factors are becoming increasingly more important... how are people without $$$ who must work multiple jobs to support themselves supposed to have a chance? Just quit my job and go make a difference in the world?

Perhaps work experience, even if not curing cancer, can BE a significant soft factor. Perhaps it's a good thing that the LSAT doesn't guarantee anything. I'd like to think that the sort of school where no single strong factor is a guarantee, is the sort of school where no single weak factor precludes admission, which is in the interest of both the school and its prospective students.
