UR 1 - 1/20/2016
UR 2 - 1/31/2016
This is probably bad news, right? It was pretty fast review time and I haven't heard anything from UVA yet. There's not a UR 3, is there?
ETA - In case it didn't come through in the post, the UR 3 thing was meant to be a joke. Expecting my first ding of the cycle.
UR 2 - 1/31/2016

I've been UR1 since 11/30/2015 and have gotten 0 updates from UVA... what does this mean? I have a growing feeling of a waitlist, or reject...especially since so many admits get interviewed

+1 the pain is evident (although I'm UR2 early december; submitted early Oct). My numbers aren't auto admit for UVA either.Draconem wrote:UR 11/18. I'm a reverse splitter, GPA very slightly above 75th and LSAT at 25th, with pretty good softs and personal statement. 2 LORs from professors. Now kicking myself for not getting a third LOR or writing a Why UVA... I'm so scared guysgreenapples wrote:+1 the pain is evident (although I'm UR2 early december; submitted early Oct). I'd assume above medians. Schools seem to be really loving high LSAT scores this cycle, more than usual. Splitters are having a much better cycle than reverse splittersmjsjr wrote:What numbers are auto admit?greenapples wrote:+1 the pain is evident (although I'm UR2 early december; submitted early Oct). It's funny because just yesterday I saw someone post that reverse splitters are having a better cycle than splitters. Probably school dependent to be honest.ChocoFreeze wrote:I'd assume above medians. Schools seem to be really loving high LSAT scores this cycle, more than usual. Was gonna say this as well. Also wanted to see the methodology behind the claims that one is having a better cycle than the other in addition to the "this cycle, more than usual" claims (have seen many comments on the topic).Today wrote:It's funny because just yesterday I saw someone post that reverse splitters are having a better cycle than splitters. I guess I'm just really salty about my friend. He's gotten in to Chicago, UVA, UT, the Darrow at Michigan, Duke. He's a 3.6 170 URM. I'm a 3.97/163 non-URM, but still a minority. Just not one they care aboutlymenheimer wrote:Was gonna say this as well. Oh shucks, I hope this post didn't add to your stress! I'm sure you'll have a great cycle. I also read that 2 great LORs are far better than 3 LORs + mediocre LOR because it dissuades the admissions officers from seeing the great two (plenty of admissions deans talk about this) Perhaps it's not my place to say this because we're all faceless users but I'm sure you put a lot of work to your application! Don't look back and regretChocoFreeze wrote:I'm a reverse splitter, GPA very slightly above 75th and LSAT at 25th, with pretty good softs and personal statement. 2 LORs from professors. Re: UVA c/o 2019 Applicants (2015-2016)
There's the problem with your analysis. Your friend is a freaking 170 URM. And high LSATs are generally favored over high GPAs anyways (since they are less prevalent). If you were to retake and get a 170, you'd have similar options as him with your GPA as it is.ChocoFreeze wrote:I guess I'm just really salty about my friend. If UVA or other schools you don't end up getting into is your first choice, you can always transfer. Good luck!
Thank you for being positive. I just really want to go to a T14 school, my undergraduate school was mediocre and I really want to have my last degree be from a fantastic law school. I'm not rich so I also need some aid, I just hope I can get in somewhere with enough to be able to financially make it :/
I'm currently at an internship in Washington, D.C. as part of a selective program in my undergrad, and that's the strongest soft on my resume. I could take a year off, work here, and try to get my LSAT up again if I have a bad cycle but I really don't want to have to do that... I could also have my boss write a LoR down the line after I've worked a bit more to help me get off some waitlists

I suppose you're right. Honestly I just don't want to face that truth, I don't want to retake go through this all over again. The waiting sucks. But life doesn't always work out the way you want it to, perhaps this needs to happen to me for one reason or anotherlymenheimer wrote:There's the problem with your analysis. LOL! you're right, but "retake" is a broken record because it's vastly more often than not the right advice.Navyhornguy wrote:^brace yourself. The "retake" posts are coming....
Choco, you're not just a reverse splitter for the T-14, you're an extreme reverse splitter in that your LSAT is significantly below most of their 25%iles. This is a problem because instead of your GPA tugging upwards on interpretations of your LSAT, your LSAT is tugging downwards on interpretations of your GPA. Consider, you mentioned you are coming from a, in your words, mediocre undergrad, which is going to cause natural skepticism about your GPA. Your LSAT, as it stands, is only going to reinforce that skepticism.
I'd say that right now for your goals (getting $$$ at a T-14), you probably don't have enough ammunition. There's absolutely no shame in bowing out, retaking the LSAT and seeing your options multiply once you get at least at or above something like a 167. Moving from 163-167 is just a matter of getting about six more questions right. You aren't seriously telling yourself you can't do that are you?
