I hope you're right Harvette! Is that a hunch or something more concrete?

Sure, we may, but I don't really see any reason for that. There's a backlog of November/December JS1s still waiting to hear back. If March 7th were the only ASW,1-2 week turnarounds would be plausible. But since there are two, the latter being in April (I believe), there's no reason for current JS1s to have such a quick turnaround.Harvette wrote:Yeah! We may see faster turnaround time soon with JS1 leading to JS2 in a matter of 1-2 weeks.

This makes sense to me. I do think that they have to start accepting some of the older JS1s soon though, because logistically, it doesn't pay to have one ASW with 60 people and the other with several hundred (and people need to book plane tickets and such.)

Re: Harvard c/o 2018 Applicants (2014-2015 Cycle)
Oh I did not realize there was a significant backlog of JS1. How many are we talking about?
Last year, there were JS1 followed by quick JS2 all within the last two weeks of January. I just now realize that those may have been scheduled at least a week earlier.
Mid January to mid February was crazy busy. So the earlier JS1 will prolly hear back in the next few days.

To give you an idea of the backlog, the latest accepted JS1 was 11/17 so far, although plenty of people who had their JS1 before them are still waiting to hear back too.Harvette wrote:Oh I did not realize there was a significant backlog of JS1. How many are we talking about?

No chance that they'll postpone the ASWs, right? Because that would suck.

I don't think so. I'd be very surprised if we didn't see at least a small wave within the next two weeks.pulstar1 wrote:No chance that they'll postpone the ASWs, right? Because that would suck.
ETA: JS2 wave, that is

Aside from avoiding the anguish of waiting even longer to hear back does this mean there was even less of an advantage to applying early in terms of admissions bump? If Harvard is taking it's time to review more of the applicant pool/reviewing applicants differently it seems like December or even later applicants are going to have a lot more spaces available when their file gets reviewed.

There's not that big an advantage applying early to begin with.lawapp1 wrote:Aside from avoiding the anguish of waiting even longer to hear back does this mean there was even less of an advantage to applying early in terms of admissions bump? However I think you need to just wait before the next JS2 wave to have a greater understanding of what H is up to. In their first wave it seems to be limited to those who interviewed mid November or earlier. Their second wave could include mid December or earlier, or maybe they will take people with even more recent interviews provided that H knows they want those people right now. Thus far it's hard to tell from just one wave what kind of factor timing of submission is.
Pure speculation: The fact that so many amazing early submits were interviewed months ago but not yet accepted leads me to believe that H is coming for those folks next.

For schools that give merit aid, there is an advantage to applying early.
For schools that do not give merit aid, I think there is a disadvantage to applying late (check LSN if you like), which translates to a weak advantage to applying "early" (i.e. before January).

If you have so so numbers but an otherwise great application, it is always better to apply early.
I am not sure I understand the disadvantage of applying early if you have done your best putting your application together. It is not like they have to send out a certain amount of rejections each month?
Never mind, misread one of the earlier posts.

Sorry if this is a repeat question, but I couldn't find the answer looking through the board. What is the average amount of time between application complete and an interview request?

Re: Harvard c/o 2018 Applicants (2014-2015 Cycle)
Unfortunately it's hard to say with certainty. Some only had to wait 4 days, while others have had to wait close to 95. If I was to put a number on it, I'd say average is 25 days (but I wouldn't put any weight into this number, it's just a rough calculation that will undoubtedly change).bretby wrote:Sorry if this is a repeat question, but I couldn't find the answer looking through the board. If you went complete recently, it might be helpful to know the most recent JS1 wave on Jan 8th had someone who went complete between Dec 15th-17th.

Agreed - it's hard to say what's going on when all we have is one (small) JS2 wave.lc39 wrote:However I think you need to just wait before the next JS2 wave to have a greater understanding of what H is up to.
My guess is the next 'batch' will include candidates who were missed from the earlier JS1 waves (pre-Nov 14th) and the 'auto-admit' candidates from all Dec JS1 waves (including Dec 24).

average # of days between complete and JS1 from the spreadsheet (admittedly a skewed sample) is 27.9

Re: Harvard c/o 2018 Applicants (2014-2015 Cycle)
This is interesting (albeit useless and probably not accurate because not everyone shares complete dates):
Average # days between complete -> JS1 by month:
Oct: 17.3
Nov: 18.1
Dec: 33.3
Jan: 57.2
Basically, regardless of when you submitted, don't give up hope on a JS1 because HLS is going back through the submit dates and still inviting people who have been passed over so far!
ETA: In case it wasn't clear, those numbers are NOT saying if you went complete in Jan it will take on average 57.2 days to get a JS1. Rather, in the JS1 waves in January, those who received invitations to interview had been complete on average for 57.2 days.
