Saddened by the fact that I have gotten radio silence from UVA.
Got into H, Chicago, NYU, and many other T14. It's unfortunate because UVA + a Dillard would have been very convincing, but now it might just be what could have been...

Re: UVA c/o 2019 Applicants (2015-2016)
If you have sincere interest and you think that you have the stats to pull a Dillard, a letter of continued interest certainly could not hurt. The admissions staff at UVA may be very wary of "over-qualified" candidates, but they are also VERY receptive to such candidates if you can demonstrate a sincere interest in the school. If you didn't write a "why UVA" or visit the campus, chances are that they think you are more likely to go to Harvard, and they will either waitlist or straight up reject you.Oskosh wrote:Saddened by the fact that I have gotten radio silence from UVA.

I think you can be pretty open to the adcoms with your position as well. They understand that there are far fewer candidates willing to give up Harvard for UVA at sticker than there are who would give it up for a full ride. I don't know how much money they still have to give away (they've run out in past years), so the earlier you contact them the better. Obviously don't straight up ask for the Dillard, but there's no rule against mentioning that you are very serious about considering the financial burdens of attending some of the schools you have been accepted to already (and yes, feel free to mention them by name; a Harvard acceptance is fantastic leverage). Don't be obnoxious about it, and they are likely to respond very warmly to your professed interest.

Re: UVA c/o 2019 Applicants (2015-2016)
Idk...i feel like its kind of arrogant. I mean, a full ride at any T14 would be pretty convincing, but im not gonna tell that to adcomms because i obviously dont fit the profile, and that could be based on numbers or other factors. Theres a difference between "hey i really love UVA" and "hey, i like uva and if you give me enough money i could be convinced to attend." And maybe you were intending the former, but the comments are coming off as the latter.
Also, once you do hear, it could be a dillard. You dont really know until you hear something.

Just got home 5 minutes ago to find a Dillard in the mail. Very strategic timing, UVA. Solid culmination of a great night.
Can somebody tell me I'm an idiot for still being 80/20 in favor of Harvard? I'm a snot nose, prestige-blinded K-JD and it's hard to see it as more than just numbers on a page.

I'm not going to call you an idiot, but I'd say take the Dillard.
ETA: Obviously it depends on what you want to do with your degree and how you'd be financing Harvard and a million other factors. That was just my gut reaction to your question.

Re: UVA c/o 2019 Applicants (2015-2016)
There are plenty of good reasons to prefer Harvard to a Dillard, and plenty of good reasons to prefer a Dillard to Harvard. Same goes for almost any T14 scholarship imo; like Winter says, it comes down to what you want to do with your degree, your financing, and the rest of your personal history.curious bobcat wrote:Just got home 5 minutes ago to find a Dillard in the mail. That being said, give UVA a really good look. I did a lot more research on the school after I got my Dillard offer, and I was constantly impressed by what I learned. I'm not saying UVA is perfect, but I think that people sometimes underrate the opportunities it makes available. Add a Dillard into the mix, and they are basically pledging to personally groom you for success.

Others that received a scholarship recently, did that come with a "UVA Lawyer: Learning by Doing" marketing book-like thing?

Congratulations to everyone getting scholarships!
I keep checking my mail excitedly hoping for a little financial aid myself. I'm already really excited about UVA and a little scholarship money could totally seal the deal.

Mine did not - it was only a letter congratulating me on the scholarship and scholarship amount. Best thing I've received in the mail perhaps ever.Today wrote:Others that received a scholarship recently, did that come with a "UVA Lawyer: Learning by Doing" marketing book-like thing?
