Hey gang,

Would any of you be willing to email me specific questions you were asked during your interview? I've gotten a lot of general advice from messages and this thread, and it's been very helpful. It'd put my mind at ease to hear some real questions though.

Thank ya dearly.

Is the 'writing' section on the application meant mostly for theses?

i put a brief summary of my thesis there, but i think if you've published anything academic, it could also go there

^^I didn't have a thesis, so I just put some major papers I wrote senior year that had multiple rounds of review

Yeah, I think any written piece that spent a significant amount of time in draft/revision/edit mode, especially if it was with an adviser or professor, is game for this. I have been told by those who would know that H does not like to see it left blank, so you should feel free to be fairly liberal with what you put there.

Doesn't it specifically state in the app that it's asking about papers which have been written under a professor/professional's supervision (i.e. a thesis, published doc, etc.)?

I don't recall the exact language, but I believe you can read "under a professors supervision" pretty liberally from what I have been told.

This seems like a new way for us to pass the time...HLS cycle poetry. Maybe roll it into a book deal at some point?

There is a place called HLS
We think it is the very best

A place where we all want to go
(Though Cambridge is all full of snow)

So call us please - we are your fans!
So call us please, Ms. Jess Soban!

Yes, I asked and they are pretty much looking for anything that shows you have experience writing in an academic setting. As an example, I was told that a 25 page research paper I wrote during a senior seminar class should be listed even though it did not undergo multiple revisions with the help of a faculty member.

For some reason I read this as being chanted by a cheer leading squad lol

Wait - now I just read it like it was a military marching chant

Nice. You definitely nailed the "kiru" aspect of haikus with the ice cream.
