The bad news is that the wait may be longer.HawkeyeGirl wrote:Oh great... app deadline extended to March 8.. This can only mean we'll all be waiting longer, no?
The good news is that their algorithms are likely pointing to median drops...

They extended the deadline due to LSAC's website being down in the days preceding the (original) March 1st deadline.flops89 wrote:The bad news is that the wait may be longer.HawkeyeGirl wrote:Oh great... app deadline extended to March 8.. This can only mean we'll all be waiting longer, no?

Right. Just like NU extended their deadline "due to interview availability."cheerios16 wrote:They extended the deadline due to LSAC's website being down in the days preceding the (original) March 1st deadline.flops89 wrote:The bad news is that the wait may be longer.HawkeyeGirl wrote:Oh great... app deadline extended to March 8.. Did the notice specifically say you received no merit, or it just didn't mention it?francesfarmer wrote:Need. 0 merit.CMC88 wrote:Need or merit or both. I got 0 need.francesfarmer wrote:Just got my financial aid award. Its mediocre.

It didn't mention it but the number and the nature of the letter (and the fact that it came two days after submitting my financial aid materials) leads me to believe its need. And I am not in range for merit aid from Penn, generally.02889 wrote:Did the notice specifically say you received no merit, or it just didn't mention it?francesfarmer wrote:Need. 0 merit.CMC88 wrote:Need or merit or both. You know it. I think admits are probably done for now :/Audeamus wrote:Anyone still stuck at URC1 2/7? I'm getting antsy.

I don't think that is accurate, unless you're specifically talking about UCR1 2/7 folks. Last year there were 195 admits on LSN who didn't get WL, and there are only 150 as of now.LRGhost wrote:You know it. Oh, that's pretty good news. But the graph last year seemed to suggest it ends in the Feb/March intermix. :/ I looked at the WL thread from last year and there was little movement, so maybe they cut some admit size and are going to lean more on that?WokeUpInACar wrote:I don't think that is accurate, unless you're specifically talking about UCR1 2/7 folks. All signs seem to point to schools dragging their feet quite a bit more this cycle and waiting longer to decide on both scholarships and admissions.LRGhost wrote:Oh, that's pretty good news. Re: Penn C/O 2016 Applicants (2012-2013 Cycle)
It's funny bc those of us who got need, there is no mention of merit, but those who got merit, it told them they received no need based.02889 wrote:Did the notice specifically say you received no merit, or it just didn't mention it?francesfarmer wrote:Need. 0 merit.CMC88 wrote:Need or merit or both. Anyways, I'm fairly sure that most people, if not all, end up with one or the other at Penn. I got a much larger need award than expected, leading me to believe that in larger need based awards, numbers are taken into consideration (my numbers would be competitive for a small to mid size merit scholarship).

it's probably a coincidence, but I know at least 2 of the UCR1 2/7 crowd, including myself, identify as LGBT. Any other UCR1 2/7ers check the LGBT box on the Penn app?

Hmm. I'm UCR1 2/7 and I'm a URM. I'm thinking of conspiracies to quell my anxiety, haha.

I'm a URM, too, and my UCR1 was 2/7 as well. Are we the diversity bunch, then? Went UCR2 on 2/22. I'm in love with Penn...I just wish they would return the feeling.pebblsrock wrote:Hmm. I'm UCR1 2/7 and I'm a URM. I'm thinking of conspiracies to quell my anxiety, haha.

Re: Penn C/O 2016 Applicants (2012-2013 Cycle)
So over on the UVA thread, the applicants who didn't originally write a "Why UVA" essay and hadn't heard anything for a while went ahead and submitted one months later. Several of them were admitted within a few days of doing so. Has anyone on this thread had the same luck with Penn? I haven't been following this thread closely enough to know. Since I didn't write a "Why Penn" originally and I'm still not UCR1 over a month later, would the formatting be a "Why Penn" essay or just a LOCI? And if it is a letter, do I address it to Dean Post? (that's the name google gave me) Sorry if this has been asked before! I really would like for someone over there to look at my app before all the spots are gone.

You can send it and try your luck. But, Penn seems to be doing more YP this year and the two rounds of ED have probably filled up alot of spots already. Can't hurt to try though.efin12 wrote:So over on the UVA thread, the applicants who didn't originally write a "Why UVA" essay and hadn't heard anything for a while went ahead and submitted one months later. Re: Penn C/O 2016 Applicants (2012-2013 Cycle)
I wonder what the reason for this is. It seemed to be the case with UVA and even Columbia as well. In a year with 10-20% fewer applications to these schools, when they're trying to decide between reduced class size and reduced medians, I wonder how they benefit from being really careful with their yield percentage.curious66 wrote:You can send it and try your luck. Re: Penn C/O 2016 Applicants (2012-2013 Cycle)
I wrote a combined LOCI/Why Penn stating my strong interest in attending after being UR1 for three weeks and was admitted a week or so later. I also didn't submit a Why Penn initially but did submit another essay. Don't know if it helped but it certainly didn't hurtefin12 wrote:So over on the UVA thread, the applicants who didn't originally write a "Why UVA" essay and hadn't heard anything for a while went ahead and submitted one months later.
