Understood, and your statement isn't wrong. They do admit "some" people below medians, and so does every school, but that doesn't make their admission strategy any less numbers oriented. For every applicant below a median they make sure there are many on the opposite end of the spectrum to even things out for their numbers. And my point is that they generally only take you under one median if you're well over in the other, have a pretty rare and impressive soft, or are URM. I'm not completely disagreeing, but it makes a lot more sense to include the full picture than to say "well, there are some exceptions once in a while."sam61252 wrote:The point being made was that they do select candidates that are slightly below medians with decent softs, as opposed to the number scum they were being made out to be by saying a felon with numbers would be selected.tmon wrote: Most likely they had one or more of the following:

It really is a numbers game for the vast majority of applicants. There are exceptions to every rule, but the exceptions tend to be...well, exceptional.

And since when is being a felon make someone automatically scum? Seems really judgmental. We all didn't grow up in a $200,000 yearly income family.

Oh, and I actually remember someone was an admitted felon at ASD. Nothing big, but just remembered that.

AKA, they handle admissions like every single other law school. Even HYS don't take a whole lot of people below both medians. Still, at this point it is better to stay in contact so they have a recognized name for when the next round of WL'ed kids get in. Best of luck!tmon wrote:Understood, and your statement isn't wrong. And dietcoke: You are below the GPA floor of 11/14 of the t14, and most the admits on 2 of the 3 left take most their splitters as ED's, so good luck riding out NU's WL. Count your blessings you got into the highest ranked LSAT whore outside of the t14. Wustl isn't offering you more money because they know at the end of the day, they are 90% likely to be your highest ranked option

I think "scum" was the characterization they felt was being placed on the admissions team/strategy. If numbers whoring is scummy then...welcome to the legal profession!

Interesting thing is, I think I had both numbers (2.7/168) lower than dietcoke's, and I got $60k total. I guess my softs were ok.Birdnals wrote:AKA, they handle admissions like every single other law school. Even HYS don't take a whole lot of people below both medians. Re: WUSTL c/o 2015 Applicants (2011-2012 cycle)
He is basically below the GPA floor of everywhere, especially when considering his LSAT. GULC took one person with a 2.61 and it was an 172 ED, UVA took 2 2.8s, 173 and 176 respectively off the WL, and NU only dipped to 2.6 once for a 179. The idea that he would get into a T14 is laughable, 170 is a fine score, but it is not enough to offset a pretty awful GPA addendum or not. Plus the idea that he is somehow owed more money from a T1 school for the sole reason that he is 2 points above the LSAT median is unreasonable. To have gotten an offer at all from a non TTT given that GPA is something to be thankful for.Birdnals wrote:AKA, they handle admissions like every single other law school. More on topic I'm having a bit of a quarter life crisis about going to WUSTL in the fall and there is a solid chance I end up withdrawing before the 2nd deposit deadline. If that is the case, I really hope one of you guys here gets my spot :S

Anyone fellow waitlisted brethren heard anything from the admissions office? I'm starting to assume that the movement has ceased until the June 1st deadline. Those who have gotten the call, how much time have they given you to decide?

Looking extremely likely that I'm withdrawing, just can't get over regretting how much I blew this cycle and want to give it a better shot next year. Still a solid chance I end up at WUSTL in 2013, but in the meantime that should free up a spot and 90k that I hope one of you guys gets

Re: WUSTL c/o 2015 Applicants (2011-2012 cycle)
No financially I got what I should have at WUSTL, I should have applied to more schools though so I actually had a spectrum of options. I'm bringing UG debt into the picture too so I'm at that awkward level of debt where even though WUSTL would be cheaper, i'll still be in enough debt to need big law or LRAP, so giving the security of the T14 even though more expensive a careful look seems wise.lawyerinwaiting wrote:i dont get it, were you hoping for a full ride? anyway im not arguing with you, in fact i agree that you should withdraw asap lol.2014 wrote:Looking extremely likely that I'm withdrawing, just can't get over regretting how much I blew this cycle and want to give it a better shot next year. Re: WUSTL c/o 2015 Applicants (2011-2012 cycle)
I'm a little confused by the scholarships I've seen this cycle for WUSTL, and it makes me think softs might be a factor to some degree. My numbers are similar to Dietcoke with a slightly lower LSAT, and got (it sounds like) significantly more $ than he was offered, and was also given a very slight increase upon asking for more. I also saw Wily who has virtually identical numbers got slightly more $ than I was offered. The thing that's puzzling is that my softs are average at best, with a pretty strong undergrad and a few years of relatively blah work experience. Anyone have any insight on this? Strength of PS or something else that, according to TLS collective wisdom "doesn't matter," coming into play here?dietcoke0 wrote:Nope, well under, and did ask for more, and didn't get it. Have strong softs, GPA addendum (33 hours of College credit in high school that I withdrew from or underperformed since I was just taking random courses, as well as a set of withdraws with a changed major in UG, and got 3.5 in my major in UG), few years real WE, and over achieved at other schools scholarship-wise. Felt according to past allocations that I got less than half of what I should've, but hey, oh well. Still riding out other waitlists for T14, so it's all good. Wash U would admit felons if it raised their medians, and I'm okay with that. Just a numbers game, and I want higher numbers in my ScholarshipsRobespierre wrote:Dietcoke - Did you get at least 45K total? If so, you got what's coming to you under their matrix, I think.
ETA- I'm pretty happy with my scholly all things considered, so I'm not sour grapes, just curious.
