Re: WUSTL 2011 Cycle
I finally sent an email just to ask what was up. I applied way back in October and my status has stayed at "In Review" with an early November date ever since. My numbers are 167, 3.8x with some pretty decent softs. I was really nice and cordial in the email, but I also gently let them know that I've gotten decisions from every single other school I applied to (including, luckily, acceptances and fairly large scholarships at higher ranked schools). I realize that it really is tough to stay on track with all the apps they get, but I'm also not sure it's in their best interest to admit all the 168+ LSATS right away while candidates with target numbers hang in limbo for months and months.

goin on 3+ weeks w/o scholarship information. I'd like to know soon because there isn't a snowball's chance in hell I'm putting myself into the amount of debt that WUSTL at sticker would cost.

I went UR last Friday. Expecting a decision this week, but I wouldn't get scholarship for a couple weeks, correct? Are they trying to turn me off to their school on purpose?Perplexed Penguin wrote:April 1. Any particular reasons you're expecting a decision so soon? It's been two weeks since my first IR date and nada.

Re: WUSTL 2011 Cycle
I too, would be shocked if there was not a big decision wave before sometime early next week. I would think they would get out some obvious rejections / waitlists, as well as offer up some more acceptances. My reasoning: People are making deposits very soon, and it would be to their advantage to, at least, get a few more acceptances out to attractive candidates. After April 1st, plans start to develop, and hearing from a school after this date can make it less attractive, unless it is a total no-brainer.kjadkins wrote:Any particular reasons you're expecting a decision so soon? My bet is the next wave goes out by Thursday this week. Upon said wave, I expect to find my rejection!

If I don't get it in the next week or so, there is about zero chance I will consider them. I should be in, but that damn 168 wall has kept me out of review. Their means of admission is very off putting.

I don't recall where, but I believe I read somewhere that if you are admitted after 4/1 you have two weeks to deposit.Flips88 wrote:I went UR last Friday. Where is this info on refundable? Is there an admitted student's portal? I just have a nice mass e-mail.
Never mind I see it now. The first $300 deposit is refundable.

Well, Wash U, it was fun being admitted, but Illinois has done everything better than you for me this cycle - from the tuition guarantee, to the higher scholarship offer, right down to the nicer, engraved flash drive.
While I was looking forward to being in the crime capital of the U.S, I don't think you're worth the extra few thousand dollars.

How crimey is St. Louis? I mean, it tops basically all of the lists online. I'm a super small town guy, so that would probably flip me the heck out.

Re: WUSTL 2011 Cycle
I'm not from St. Louis and have never been. I imagine it is like any other big city. Terrible areas that you stay out of especially at night. Most of the city is perfectly safe. And I hear that Wash U is in a very safe and very nice area.
You simply wouldn't be in the bad areas.
It isn't Mogadishu. You aren't going to get murdered if you accidentally drive into the wrong part of town. You just be alert and careful.
Let us get back to the hating for how long they are taking... I am still sitting at second IR on 3/8.

I believe Jcougar has a post in the WUSTL 1L discussion thread that romo started explaining the reason St. L is ranked #1. It put my mind at ease.

Re: WUSTL 2011 Cycle
The gist of it was the the St. Louis, proper lines are drawn over too small of an area, creating a disproportionate ratio of land area to # of crimes... like one pass said, it's no worse than any other city, there are a few rough neighborhoods, they're nowhere close to the school, and if you aren't a complete idiot you should be fine.
Seriously? What are you waiting for?
