Re: Michigan 2011
Man, just when I think the coast is clear to ask about ASWs, people start getting Darrow offers (congrats, though!). Aw, what the hell... which ASW are people planning on going to? Are there differences between the two? Is one of them better attended than the other? I plan on going to the first so I can mull over a decision for longer, but I wish I could go to the later one for the slightly nicer weather.

Re: Michigan 2011
I WAS planning to go for the first one because it's during my UG spring break and I wouldn't have had to miss class. But now I'm going to go for the second one since I am going home to India over spring break (because I couldn't get to go home over Christmas break thanks to multiple canceled flights and poor weather conditions).sgtgrumbles wrote:Man, just when I think the coast is clear to ask about ASWs, people start getting Darrow offers (congrats, though!). The second one will be warmer anyway, and second semester senior year is senioritis time anyway, right? So one missed day of class is no big deal.

Oh, also, when are they going to open registration for those? I want to go ahead and confirm so I can buy my plane ticket.

Ahh, I missed the call! My cell was off. She just told me to call her back, no mention of the amount. It is too late now. I have to wait until Monday.

Well congratulations in advance. I'm sure you'll get the full amount.sarahh wrote:Ahh, I missed the call! My cell was off. She just told me to call her back, no mention of the amount. It is too late now. I have to wait until Monday.
She is SO nice on the phone, too. You could tell she was truly excited to be calling.

Congrats to Darrow recipients (extreme jealousy, but I know my numbers don't put me anywhere close to that dream). Am starting to feel like Michigan is working hard to protect their new 171 75th. A look at LSN shows that you are more likely to be admitted with a 169 (median) or a 171 (75th) than a 170. I suppose a 170 is uninteresting if the goal is 168/169/171. Just a few 170s to fill in the gaps between 50/75. Or am I being paranoid/seeking out crazy rationalizations for why no word from UM? That said, LSN only has 3 at 168, which is the 25th. Now just rambling... stupid. Shouldn't post at 2 am after drinking.

It's not just the 170s, I haven't heard back with a 179 and a fee waiver... I guess we just got to wait... I'm enjoying my 2pm drinking session, so we are kind of in the same boat across time zonesmr_toad wrote:Congrats to Darrow recipients (extreme jealousy, but I know my numbers don't put me anywhere close to that dream). I'm a 170/3.96 applied 11/1 and still haven't heard anything, so I'll just assume your 170 theory is correct.mr_toad wrote:Congrats to Darrow recipients (extreme jealousy, but I know my numbers don't put me anywhere close to that dream). I'd be freaking out, but I really can't see myself ending up at Mich next year anyway. (No offense to all you Michaphiles)

So, the accepted student's "mail and money" tab tells me that I got $15,000 a year! Exciting. My only concern: it says the award year is 2012. Is that normal? Surely they aren't already deferring people. What the heck is going on?

I applied early November and I'm in the high 170s, but under the GPA median. Still no response. Re: Michigan 2011
Hey gang, has anyone else had their scholarship amount randomly increased? My award has gone from 15,000 to 22,500 all of a sudden on "Financial Aid Award Information." I got a letter a couple of weeks ago saying 15,000. I'm thinking it is a glitch, but I hope not, haha.

Sorry if this has been covered before, but Michigan requires 1 recommendation yet recommends 3. How big of a deal does it seem to be to them if you only have 2 LOR's?

Re: Michigan 2011
I asked one of the people in the admissions office and she said that they say 2 is acceptable. My specific questions was for clarification since the application recommends 3 but the LSAC LOR Required / Recommended / Accepted recommends 1. She told me either 2 or 3 is fine but you really only need the third if it provides another perspective like from an employer while the other two are academic.soccerfreak wrote:Sorry if this has been covered before, but Michigan requires 1 recommendation yet recommends 3.
