My daughter is only one as of yesterday, so not really an issue yet, thanks though.boadicea wrote:SAE: down to ~200 from ~300 last year. Not a good sign, and the remedy doesn't bode well either.
Just saying, if your LSAT is above 165, good Lord! You should be fine! Gainesville isn't that awesome, trust me.
I'm not a parent, but I wouldn't want my kid going to the schools that are zoned around the campus. Exception being maybe P.K. Yonge. Gainesville public school system is SCARY. I hope there's a choice program that Alachua offers!

Well it is a regional issue for me. I didn't apply to many schools at all because I assumed I'd get in UGA or UF or both... I am from Tennessee, and want to stay in the Southeast but I don't want to live in Knoxville (lived there for 6 years before, won't do it again). With my GPA I don't stand a chance at Vandy, and I didn't apply to Emory because of $$$. I am on hold already at UGA. Didn't apply to Bama because I can't really see myself living there. So I just applied to UGA, UF, and Georgia State as a safety.

I got a small white envelope from UF today and thought it was a rejection! .. but it wasnt. They were asking about FL-residency information and requested a photocopy of my parents' most recent IRS1040 form to determine residency for tuition purposes... Is this a good sign?!?! They wouldnt care about residency if I wasnt getting accepted right?! At least I hope...

What is it about Stetson that makes you choose it over UF? I'm very curious to know, its not even ranked in the Top 100.

You two seem awfully giddy for a couple of blokes condemned to three years of pain and suffering at a school that most recently brought in a grand total (if you can call it that) of 8 firms for on-campus interviewing (servicing a field of approximately 400 graduating students). Stetson must have the ghost of Billy Mays pitching its program - either that or one hell of a pamphlet.Moose Thompson wrote:Congratulations! Any word on this cut? Seems unlikely they'd cut it by a quarter one year, then a third the next...

Re: University of Florida
Why this?^ You know, I am not overtly impressed with Stetson either, but they have made a choice for their future, and I am sure that it can still prepare them to be successful, so why trash it? Besides, you don't know if those 8 firms that come on campus place an emphasis on hiring Stetson grads, in that case, maybe there are only 8 but the prospect of a job is higher, I am just saying what is the necessity of bashing someone else's choice?Lomax wrote:You two seem awfully giddy for a couple of blokes condemned to three years of pain and suffering at a school that most recently brought in a grand total (if you can call it that) of 8 firms for on-campus interviewing (servicing a field of approximately 400 graduating students). This guy is a buffer for the boys in the UF locker room. Seriously, no other ls school is worthy of anything besides ridicule...all hail UF Capt. Lomax. He pulled this data out of his ass and has been using it as his main argument in other threads.isaiah6v8 wrote:Why this?^ You know, I am not overtly impressed with Stetson either, but they have made a choice for their future, and I am sure that it can still prepare them to be successful, so why trash it? Re: University of Florida
I've not decided between Stetson and UF yet. I think there are obviously several factors that one must take into consideration when deciding what law school to attend. Lomax makes valid points in his defense of UF, many of which are what have me in limbo between the two schools. The key is deciding what works best for you as an individual. I don't take it as him bagging on my decision, he is welcome to his informed opinion. My goals are the same regardless of which instituion I choose, it's really a matter of which one will serve my goals best.
Despite the overwhelming worship of rankings on this site, Stetson is held in very high regard in Tampa/St. Pete/Sarasota, which is where I intend to spend my life. You will only get out of any opportunity what you put into it, and I am prepared to give it my all at either school. I want to be on Law Review. UF, so far as I can tell, selects Law Review by class rank only, wereas Stetson has a write-on option. I am fairly confident I can perform at the top of my class, but as we all know law school grading is impossible to predict. Given that fact I like the idea of still having chance at Stetson even if I'm not in the top 5%.

I'm sorry to see my comments cause such a discussion on the UF board. I was simply trying to say that for those of you still waiting, I will be withdrawing next week. Lomax- I welcome your thoughts via PM. I have done my research and I am happy and excited to have chosen the school that is right for me! If anyone else is curious about my reasoning, please PM me! But let's keep the UF board free of such a debate and keep it focused on UF.

Does everyone with "decision pending" have a space on the bottom right saying "seat deposit received"

Hmm, trying to remember some words of wisdom from a certain rabbit's mother in a certain Disney film about not being a douche, keeping your mouth shut, etc. The words seem to escape me, however...Lomax wrote:You two seem awfully giddy for a couple of blokes condemned to three years of pain and suffering at a school that most recently brought in a grand total (if you can call it that) of 8 firms for on-campus interviewing (servicing a field of approximately 400 graduating students).
