I'm sooooooo happy I don't have to go to Baylor (my 2nd choice) now because I'm not interested in litigation even though they're great at it and they have that mandatory litigation program.
Are there any facebook groups for people attending SMU next year?

You know, I never did get a phone call...I mean, I got accepted in that first batch, right before snowpocalypse hit, but my feelings are still a little hurt. I hope it's still official even though I didn't get the phone call, because otherwise one admissions officer just spent my $250 deposit on a j. crew shopping spree...Peripatetic wrote:Its official, I just got the phone call.

I still can't PM you. I got the same thing w/ 2x the year by year money. Don't like that they don't have their estimated tuition and that it depends on the Board of Regents - jokers.txsunshine wrote:I was so set on SMU... but Houston just sent me a significantly increased scholarship offer that is muddying the waters again. Ay ay ay.
Has SMU's tuition increased at all over the years? Is it standard to not give a figure for tuition until after all deadlines?

I was under the impression that Houston's tuition was ~26k and SMU's was ~42k. What would each school cost you over the three years? Have you visited both campuses?bartleby wrote:I still can't PM you. I got the same thing w/ 2x the year by year money. Re: SMU 2011
I haven't gone to SMU yet because I can't take any days off. I went to UH for undergrad so I have an idea of what the campus is like and took my LSAT in the law building.
UH's tuition...for some damn reason...is their 2010-2011 tuition and not 2011-2012. Last year, I know they increased the tuition from 21k to 26k, which is outrageous. I don't even know if they can do back to back huge increases but it is a huge turnoff not getting an estimate on tuitions. Everyone I spoke to at the school was like, "We have no idea, we can tell you last year's costs."
I was wondering of private schools face sim. hikes in tuition and fees. I would assume not but I think there should be at least some increases - just wondering how substantial.
Re: costs over 3 years, I don't know. probably less than 5,000 in tuition over three years. and based on the pictures, i'd rather be at SMU than UH if it was a 5k difference.
the TLS post has a picture of UH's architecture building for some reason.

Re: SMU 2011
I think SMU has raised it some, but it's not like a $5K bump. More like a few hundred.

Re: SMU 2011
Wow, that is a turn-off. I just reread Houston's email and it does say 2010-2011 fees instead of '11-'12. But then again, the email is also dated April 2010 :/ No idea what the increases have looked like for SMU over the past few years but the fact that they don't rely on state funds is reassuring (considering Texas budget issues).bartleby wrote:I haven't gone to SMU yet because I can't take any days off. I visited SMU and it was gorgeous, really an idyllic setting. And the area of Dallas the campus is situated in is really impressive. I think you should venture out and try something new if the tuition difference is really that minimal

Re: SMU 2011
Also something to consider for Texas residents. You get a grant (not a loan) of about $3900 to help offset the tuition difference between public and private schools. Comes each year with financial aid.
It's called the Tuition Equalization Grant.
