Agreed. Though maybe they just have no money? In at Harvard, Vanderbilt at NYU, Mordecai at Duke....$$$ elsewhere. $90K from berkeley.gargleblaster wrote:Can you confirm that they are making serious offers? Are merit offers also sent out through the Financial Aid Office e-mail address? And for those who received both merit and need, did they come at the same time? Received a Berkeley Law Grant, but not sure if this also included consideration for merit...

They said in an email that they would be letting people know their quartile rank on the WL in early April...but I'm not sure if that's happening.charles117 wrote:whens the earliest that waitlisters have heard before?

Is there any idea how competitive this is. I see that there's 5 recipients but I've read that about 15% of the class is first gen. Do you need HYS numbers?crookedsmile wrote:This is not the case. At least one of the recipients has an older sibling who is a college grad. The eligibility depends on your parents being college grads.etramak wrote:Did any of you guys apply for the Berkeley Law Opportunity Scholarship? The language for eligibility is something like "first in your family to earn a bachelor's degree," which is pretty clear, but I'm surprised that someone with an older sibling who graduated two years before them isn't eligible. Can anyone confirm this is the case?

Before interviewing we were told there would be 3-5 recipients. I've only been able to confirm 3. I believe there was initially a list of 100+ that was culled down to 21 finalists. 18 ultimately decided to interview. From those finalists I was able to speak with, not all of them had HYS numbers but they all did seem to have T10 options, most had T6.etramak wrote:Is there any idea how competitive this is. Thanks! What was the interview like? I'm getting way ahead of myself since I haven't even applied yet, but I'm curious because I kind of dread interviews. Did they fly you out to the Bay area and everything?crookedsmile wrote:Before interviewing we were told there would be 3-5 recipients. I've only been able to confirm 3. Me. I'm assuming they're not offering. I'm going to wait to submit a reconsideration request until I visit Michigan and Cornell.big_willy_style_333 wrote:Anyone else admitted in January still waiting on scholly info?

They would probably be understanding if you ask for an extension when your deadline approaches if you still haven't heard back yet!enitar wrote:STribe14 wrote:I submitted my scholarship reconsideration a couple of weeks ago and haven't gotten an answer yet.enitar wrote:Has anyone successfully negotiated with Berkeley? Honestly how many emails can Berkeley send while zero mention of $? Every week it's some niche "first generation" this, "minority" that, yet no scholly info? OK.

Lmao ain't that the truth. I'm just sick of the patronizing. Like yeah diversity is cool, I'm glad you're "supporting" first generation, minority, etc - but damn, I don't live off being a minority. At the end of the day, it's about $! And if I can't have any that's fine, but it's insulting to blow up my inbox with all of these nice sounding words as if that's all I care about as a minority. smh. Sorry, rant over.charles117 wrote:Welcome to public school. Let's be real.. if you haven't received any scholly notification, you're likely not getting anything... right?

Re: UC Berkeley School of Law C/O 2020 Applicants (2016-2017)
I was one of the people that called Berkeley Law and was told I was receiving $0 in merit aid. I then emailed them genuinely expressing that Berkeley Law is where I want to be (listing all of the reasons) and they came back with $90k... so it's possible and I encourage you to continue interacting with them even though it feels like layers of bureaucracy.
Seriously? What are you waiting for?
Now there's a charge.
