Definitely not hard and fast. My acceptance letter was dated from last Wednesday, and I could generate a login last Thursday night.rpo213 wrote:To what extent has the Monday=Acceptance (via ASW) and the Friday=W/L or Ding been substantiated? Does anyone know if you can negotiate scholarship money with Georgetown? I really want to go, but the money has to be right. I've heard they are particularly stingy?

I personally know people who got in off the wait list and received money. They're stingy, but if you're committed they're much more willing to throw you something. I would just be really explicit in an email to financial aid about how you would definitely commit to GULC with >$xdavis1994 wrote:Does anyone know if you can negotiate scholarship money with Georgetown? I have no personal experience or first-hand knowledge, BUT when I visited GULC in January, some student (not an ambassador) walked up to my group and said, in not so few words, "negotiating scholarships works!!!!!!! do it!!!!!!!!" and then walked away. So it worked for one person at least.davis1994 wrote:Does anyone know if you can negotiate scholarship money with Georgetown? I really want to go, but the money has to be right. I'm pretty sure the admissions department handles allocation of merit scholarship money. So emails/inquires should be sent to them no?TheKisSquared wrote:I personally know people who got in off the wait list and received money. Is there anyone who went complete at the start of January and has literally heard nothing? I'm wondering if I should just give up hope since I've yet to hear anything regarding an interview?

Yup. Complete at beginning of Jan - I've heard nothing and I'd say I'm a fairly competitive candidate. Really, really sad over here.vip89 wrote:Is there anyone who went complete at the start of January and has literally heard nothing? Question: do you guys have dates on your status checker? Because mine just says Application Completed and then the rest of the spots are blank...or is it just me

Re: Georgetown C/O 2019 Applicants (2015-2016)
Georgetown doesn't use the status checker. Complete is the last thing you will see on it, and it often doesn't have a date. You will get either an acceptance via snail mail or a waitlist/rejection via email once they have made a decision.shakha wrote:Samevip89 wrote:Is there anyone who went complete at the start of January and has literally heard nothing? Not sure about GULC specifically but most schools want you to talk to Financial Aid. At a lot of schools there's a very blurred line between need and merit aid. If unclear, I would copy both.wrestlme431 wrote:I'm pretty sure the admissions department handles allocation of merit scholarship money. So how does the financial aid/scholarship process at Georgetown work? I've heard that some people get an email about what's your price or something?

Re: Georgetown C/O 2019 Applicants (2015-2016)
GULC treats them entirely distinctly. Financial aid handles need-based aid, Admissions handles merit aid. You also can't double dip at GULC - while you can be awarded both merit and need-based aid, you will only receive one (whichever is higher), though if say you initially get awarded a higher need-based grant than merit, and your need changes and the award gets reduced, then you will be switched to the merit award if it is higher than the new need-based award.TheKisSquared wrote:Not sure about GULC specifically but most schools want you to talk to Financial Aid. Interesting and unique, right? I know of other schools where you can't get need aid above certain thresholds of merit aid, but I didn't realize GULC put such a barrier up.squirtlesquad14 wrote:GULC treats them entirely distinctly. Re: Georgetown C/O 2019 Applicants (2015-2016)
GULC is pretty unique in general with aid, because they don't have much of an endowment to give money out. So in general, their awards are "low" (some people even consider them insultingly low) and they don't really use awards as an aggressive recruiting tool like other places do. The whole point of the feeler emails is to let them try to make the most out of their money for the folks who qualify for it, but also actually need it to influence their decision, which they sort of achieve by having you make the first move.TheKisSquared wrote:Interesting and unique, right? They don't even have any named full tuition scholarships, which seems pretty rare for schools of the calibre.

Re: Georgetown C/O 2019 Applicants (2015-2016)
Need-based financial aid is supposedly sometime late-march/early-april, and the first round of merit scholly feeler emails already went out, but there will likely be at least one more waive, and I would guess notifications will go out sometime next month, but no one has heard back yet as far as I know.davis1994 wrote:Does anybody know when scholarship/financial aid packages become available?

Has anyone else heard back about anything this week so far? Any prior interviewees still waiting on a decision? (If so, when did you interview?)

To any veterans, active duty service members, and aspiring JAG officers:
The GULC Military Law Society (MLS) has a robust community of 85 veterans, active duty service members, and reservists. Each year, we host a comprehensive career series, academic and national-security related panels, and social events. Of note, we host a happy hour near the law center following every Open House. We'll post more details as the next Open House approaches.
If anyone has questions regarding the admissions process, the MLS at GULC, or careers in the military or in national security, please feel free to email us at military@law.georgetown.edu.
Cheers, and best of luck with the rest of the admissions cycle.
