If he had been a week earlier, I would be attending. But I deposited at UT a few days ago, signed a lease yesterday, AND my husband got a job offer in Austin yesterday. DAMN IT ALL.
via email? SO. JEALOUS!!
Yes, via e-mail. I'm so torn.
UT makes the most, practical financial sense. I am in-state plus have a scholarship and a graduate assistantship (it's a long story). Meaning UT will cost only about $75 K. I want to practice in Texas.
BUT I want big law more. Making UVA very, very attractice.
Thoughts?

Unless UVa gave you a whole lot of money I don't see why you should pick them over UT. I guess it can't hurt to call and see if they offer money.

If you signed a lease it will be hard to get out, they arent cool about that stuff in Austin (I live in Austin at the moment). If your husband already got an offer and your only looking at 75K that means you could take ZERO loans (husband income should easile be able to handle the 25k a year). Graduating from UT debt free isnt a bad idea and finding work in cville wont be as easy as Austin for your SO

Haha my husband is a teacher, so we will still be taking out loans. I will be applying my graduate assistantship money to it though, bringing it down to about 18K a year in loans total, which isn't all that bad.

Choosing UT over UVA will make it much harder to get a big law job in Texas. They are interested in recruiting T14 people. Texas firms won't offer you a 1L SA because they know you will have few other options come 2L OCI. They're going to try and poach students with Texas ties from T14 schools as much as they can, then use any remaining space for UT students.
For full disclosure, I am on the wait list at both of these schools.

Is it kosher to call even when the e-mail said if you don't plan on attending, please let us know via e-mail? I MIGHT attend, but it's a very slim chance.

Call and tell Mr. Dugas about your scholarship. See if they match it. I'm quite serious.
Then you can assess your options

Agreed. Without having seen the text of the email, I suspect that is more to deter someone from calling who, for example, is currently deciding between a full ride to Columbia or Harvard.

Me too--none of my scholarship inquiries were answered, which makes my decision easier. Just withdrew. Hope some of you start getting calls!!

So I also got the "call me Monday about your application" email from Mr. Dugas. This may or may not have been answered before, and I told myself not to read too much into it... but does this mean anything?
Edit: said in my LOCI I'd be there in the fall for sure if I got in off the waitlist, don't know if that means anything.

Pretty sure you're in. A lot of us (not sure if it was all of us) that were admitted received a similar email beforehand.

I got that mail too. Will they ask for an immediate decision, assumingly they do want me?

No they won't ask for a decision. Yes, you are both in. Dugas and Cordell Faulk routinely call the admits, and it's never been reported on TLS that such a phone call does not result in an admittance. Congrats.

Out of curiosity, did anyone else who got the email say they would commit to attending if they got in off the waitlist?

I wouldn't worry about this dude. Adcoms don't take those kinds of statements seriously enough for it to matter.

Thx. Do have any clue when are the admits supposed to make a decision?
