That's so great. I pine for the day when I'll have a more tangible idea of what I'm doing in the fall and I hope I can find the same amazing fit that you did. It may end up being at CUbananeez wrote:![]()
I just decided that it's going to be the degree and the professors and alum that I'm associated with for the rest of my life... And CU just felt so right for me. Plus, in-state tuition after 1L is much cheaper than a lot of it's rivals... And if I'm going to go to a regional school, I want it to be in Colorado. And furthermore, in Boulder.

No, I didn't. I scoured craigslist, Housing Helpers, rent.com, BoulderRent.com, etc. I ended up renting directly from a landlord, which I'm very happy about. Watch out for those overhead management companies. I went to see the apt. and handed him a check on the spot because I wanted to grab it before anybody else did. There's a lot of pre-leasing for the fall in Boulder because everybody is on the academic schedule, but a lot of that is these management companies. PM me if you think I can help you at all!LawSchoolPorFavor wrote:Did you use a real estate agent? I'm trying to figure out how I should go about my apartment hunt/relocation from NYCbananeez wrote:
I got $75,000 at DU and $20,000 at CU, and I've decided on.... CU!! Just my two cents. Not sure it's completely the correct financial decision, and I think DU is great, but I really, really love CU.
And it's kinda official! I just signed a lease for an apartment in Boulder!!

Hey, I wanted to offer up my help to anyone moving into Boulder, especially from another state. I grew up in Boulder, went to UG at CU, and have rented at a few different places and would love to share my knowledge. I also have an intimate knowledge of the buses in Boulder, particularly the AB bus to the airport. Feel free to PM me.LawSchoolPorFavor wrote:Did you use a real estate agent? That seems like a good choice because the total difference wouldn't be too great (what, 40k?). If that was the difference for me I would really investigate CU more even though I'm not a huge Boulder fan. Seems like CU might have a better alumni base outside of Colorado and would provide better portability or at least name recognition.
Before I started this process I wasn't sure DU even had a law school.
Thanks for the insight TLS.

Alright guys, I'm going to be withdrawing from CU soon despite their generous scholarship offer. UF ended up increasing my scholarship today so I'll be depositing there on Monday. It was great to meet some of y'all at ASD and I'm going to miss this thread! Good luck to everyone at CU in the fall!

Re: CU Boulder 2011
Just got a scholarship offer today in the mail. $8k for the first year and $4k for 2L and 3L.
I live in Boulder now and as much as I love it, I was hoping for a little bit more to keep me here. I feel like law school is a really good time to go try new things for awhile. Colorado isn't going anywhere; I can always come back, right?

Got the wait list letter in the mail last week. Kind of shocked tbh. I really was hoping for some scholly money and it would have easily become one of my top three choices.

Hate to say it, but unless I feel some scholly love from CU by the end of the week, I'll probably be withdrawing and sending my seat deposit to DU. I like the idea of CU, but after the 2 month wait time for acceptance, the 4(ish) week wait for scholly info, and the general outlook for CU's treatment by the legislature in balancing their budget, I feel a lot more love from DU right now.
They've surprised me before, but I'm not expecting much at this point.

I'm a huge CU fan. I love it here and I'm about to graduate. I have told many people to choose DU over CU if they have compelling reasons. Perhaps you do as well, but the reasons you list here make no sense.fundamentallybroken wrote:Hate to say it, but unless I feel some scholly love from CU by the end of the week, I'll probably be withdrawing and sending my seat deposit to DU. You want to go to DU because they let you in first and CU made you wait 2 months? That CU hasn't been quicker with scholarships?
Your point about the Colorado budget makes no sense either. It's true that tuition has risen dramatically over the past few years--but it's still cheaper than DU. It's true that the State is in not in great financial shape but Colorado's contribution to CU amounts to less than 4% of our funding. The relevant metric is how much debt you'll have after a degree from CU and how much debt you'll have after a degree from DU.
It's sad that the cost of attendance gap has narrowed so much. When I chose to come here in 2008, CU in-state tuition was $15k+/year cheaper.

The relevant answer is MUCH cheaper, unless you got a really good scholarship at CU... Which, if you did, then you likely got $25k/year at Denver, meaning it's still (probably) cheaper. Aside from the elusive full-ride at CU, even 16k/8k/8k wouldn't sway me.

Tied for 47 I thought? But still, barely 1st tier. I'm the last person to care about rankings, but makes me wonder why they slipped as much as they did.LeDique wrote:CU dropped to 48....

Yeah 47 - typo'd sry.
I'm on the same thought - the ranking doesn't matter much for CU, but I do want to know why they went down that far.
