I've always heard that W&M is pretty difficult to get in state tuition for the second and third years for OOS students, does anyone know anything about this?

They told us it was possible at ASW this weekend - but don't count on it. Also they said it was easier if you're married.Kchuck wrote:I've always heard that W&M is pretty difficult to get in state tuition for the second and third years for OOS students, does anyone know anything about this?

in response to the same question, the professor at my lunch session said (word for word) "If you weren't smart enough to figure out how to get in state residency in va, you wouldn't be here"derrminater wrote:brose wrote:They told us it was possible at ASW this weekend - but don't count on it. You have to submit an intention form by this Friday, April 1st, but you can say that you're still uncertain and the deposit deadline is extended to May 1st.mia468 wrote:anyone know what the seat deposit date is?

The deposit must be received (check or money order) in the admissions office by May 1. At ASW they were pretty clear that it can't be postmarked May 1, but rather must be in their hands.mia468 wrote:anyone know what the seat deposit date is?

I mean, she was clearly making a joke. But she did give us the basics. Rent an apartment/house, get your VA drivers license, register to vote in Williamsburg, etc. But she made it sound like pretty much anyone who had any semblance of a life in Virginia would get approved. I think her point was that in other states you have to work around really strict rules about your intention for being in the state and all that, but in VA you just have to have some documentation that you've been here for a few months and you're golden.Verity wrote:What a cock! In order to get instate, make sure to register to vote here, change your car registration, drivers license, etc., as soon as you move down. I think you need all that stuff to have been done a year prior to your request. I'm not 100% sure though. Also, if you get instate and you have a GRF or scholarship, they will likely take most or some of it away because a lot of those things are for out of state students only!

Re: William & Mary 2011
This was also mentioned in my lunch. One of the students actually said something about it. They adjust your scholarship to be the same percentage. So if your scholarship covers 50% of out of state tuition, it would then be adjusted to cover 50% of in-state tuition. Not sure how it works for GRFs though, since that's slightly different.bluebird22 wrote:In order to get instate, make sure to register to vote here, change your car registration, drivers license, etc., as soon as you move down. Yeah, In my scholarship letter it explicitly states that if you achieve instate status, then the scholarship adjusts to be the same percentage.

I faxed my scholarship negotiation letter today, including a copy of the letter of a competing offer. To those who have attempted this, how long does it normally take to get a reply?

Visiting tomorrow! Tour, class visit, and meeting with Dean planned! Never been to Williamsburg before, or W&M, so it should be interesting!

IDK about fax, but my email negotiation was very promptly rejected. Not to be all negative, I mean, they're fast.mettasutta wrote:I faxed my scholarship negotiation letter today, including a copy of the letter of a competing offer. Did you have leverage from a peer school? A T30 offered me more merit-based aid.AP-375 wrote:IDK about fax, but my email negotiation was very promptly rejected.
