In at Pitt today via snail mail. It was a regular envelope which I assumed was a rejection, but it was pretty thick and when I opened it had this gold "Pitt Law" pin holding all the papers together. I doubt I will get any money from them as I have 3.26, 158, but I am quite interested even with sticker and at this point am almost certain that I will be attending.

Congrats! Pitt is one of my top choices as well...

I submitted 11/24, email received 11/25 that they received the info. Never got a "application complete" or "under review" email. Snail Mail dated 02/05.

I actually didn't receive ANY info from them from the time I submitted to the time I got the acceptance. I called twice and no one answered, my emails were also never answered. From what I can tell the residency establishment for 2L and 3L is pretty standard so should be easy getting PA residency as long as you'll be living there and get a license. Good luck to you in your cycle. I am currently waiting on my girlfriend to get in (she has 3.46, 160) and then I will be 100% attending. Good luck, hope to see you next year.

Cool... I'm hoping to hear something soon.... Im a PA resident so PITT is in my Top 2 schools. The area is great and the COL is very low. All the positives of a big city and very few negatives.. (no ridiculous crime, traffic, $$$). Good Luck for the rest of the cycle!

Applied late November, accepted today via snail-mail with 14K per year. Anybody know if out of staters can gain in-state tuition for 2L?

You can but it's a royal pain. And not everybody gets it. You have to demonstrate your intent to remain in the state after graduation....which is pretty much impossible.
They turned me down and I appealed and had to go before the committee. On appeal, they granted me in state...largely (I think) because I brought my wife to PA with me (I guess they figured that makes me more settled....) and because I demonstrated that I could have gone to other, similarly ranked schools cheaper (and therefore I came to Pitt because I like Pittsburgh....)
Pretty much everybody who was married got granted in-state if they appealed. Alot of single folks did NOT succeed in getting in-state. So keep that in mind....

If you only went away for undergrad and never established a domicile in another state you're probably fine for 1L...but if your decision hinges on it, it doesn't hurt to check with the University's office of Student Financial Services. (Don't call the law school...they don't get involved with residency issues...

I got a call from a 1L, welcoming me, but it got cut off somehow in the middle. I tried to call back to apologize, but I needed a specific extension. Oh well, feel kind of bad though.

The primary down sides to Penn State are cost and location. PSU does not offer in-state tuition. And there are far more law offices located in Pittsburgh than there in state college or harrisburg. OCI stats appear to be very similar, this tells me these schools are regarded as peer institutions.

Depending on your goals, PSU could be attractive due to it's location so close to the state capital.

I like to think Pitt's law alumni-base puts Pitt>PSU. However, how well you do at either school probably matters most.

That only applies to the Carlisle location.
If you want to go into the political end of law, I'd say consider PSU Carlisle. Otherwise, as noted above, your options for a variety of summer employment (without having to move for the summer) will be greater in Pittsburgh.
Pitt will give you a much better connection to the Pittsburgh/western PA market (duh!). For the rest of the state, I don't think there's much difference as far as jobs go.
See which option will cost less and where you'd prefer to spend 3 years.
