Re: Illinois 2010!
I don't know the number of applications they had at this time last year, but LSN informs me that they had 3221 applications last year. I divided by two for a rough estimate, and then I took into account the 10k increase in September LSAT test takers and the fact that their application fee was waived this year. So I guessed around a 1-2k increase overall for the year. I was trying to convey surprise at how different Dean Pless's number was from my own guess.

Is there any data on how much the number of applicants has increased nationally?Pless wrote:We are up 40% from same time last year. Nationally applications are up about 8%rondemarino wrote: Do you know what their numbers at this time last year were?

Cute. But, Applicants =/= Applications. For all we know, the number of applicants has stayed the same, but there are simply more applications being sent out by each applicant.Baylan wrote:rondemarino wrote:Is there any data on how much the number of applicants has increased nationally?Pless wrote:We are up 40% from same time last year. The first report from LSAC shows applicants up 1%. Most think that percentage will be going up before the cycle is over.rondemarino wrote: Cute. But, Applicants =/= Applications. Re: Illinois 2010!
Thank for you so much for the quick response Dean Pless! With all the predictions of doom-and-gloom regarding this cycle, that is a bit of welcome news. At the very least, its telling us that the pool of applicants who are on top of everything (sending apps in Nov, etc...) hasn't increased very much.Pless wrote:The first report from LSAC shows applicants up 1%. Orrr maybe I thought you missed the second part of his post. Kind of like how I misread your applicants as applications.rondemarino wrote:

Just wanted to check in and wish everyone luck. UIUC was extremely high on my list prior to getting my LSAT score, so best of luck to everyone who hasn't heard yet
. (And maybe my re-take will go well and I'll be back in this thread next year
).

Re: Illinois 2010!
Just to add my two cents, I am an undergraduate student here at UIUC and all of my communications/interactions with the law school faculty, staff and students have been great. I was given the opportunity to shadow a student and attend a class which I thoroughly enjoyed (and was happy to say I wasn't totally lost in, since we were covering similar material in my undergrad ConLaw class). The professor did not punish the student whose day it was apparently to present the case when she wasn't sure what to say at one point or another, rather he helped her along. The students I talked to were very informative and helpful. They seemed glad to take the time to show me around and answer any questions I had. Dean Pless often gives a lot of his time to talk to undergrads about the school and is very approachable, as this thread is a clear indication of.
I know my experience is just one of many, but feel free to add it to the pool of data. Anyone looking for a comfortable environment to study law would definitely be happy here at UIUC!

Re: Illinois 2010!
Just checked my status and it says File Complete, Not in Review. Anybody else have this? Does this perhaps mean my application will be next in line to be reviewed?? Thanks!

Re: Illinois 2010!
Nevermind, just read Dean Pless' statement about the change. For a minute I thought it meant my application is no longer in review because they rejected me. Glad to get this cleared up!

Re: Illinois 2010!
Hi Dean Pless,
If I sent in my app already but it says Complete not in review, could I still send in a "Why Illinois" essay?
Thanks!

Emails will be going out in a few minutes. Good luck!
You may supplement your application with a "Why Illinois" essay if you would like. Just email it to admissions@law.Illinois.edu

Dean Pless,
It seems as if I was not in this round of notifications. When do you anticipate the next round of decisions to be reached?
