Re: UVA c/o 2020 Applicants (2016-2017)
So, I'm taking the LSAT next week, and I wanted to ask y'all a question.
So, my PT average is 177, and I'm hoping to hit around there next week, so I should be above both 75ths. Would it be weird to email UVA after I get my LSAT score, asking if I can visit and interview, esp if I haven't been accepted yet? Also, is there a chance of getting a travel stipend to visit? I would love to fly instead of driving 12 hours.

Why wouldn't you just wait to get invited to interview?SweetTort wrote:So, I'm taking the LSAT next week, and I wanted to ask y'all a question.

When you visit, they ask if you if you would like to speak with an admissions officer. Maybe you could call and ask when the best time to visit is to maximize the chance that you speak with someone (is Friday better than Thursday, etc etc). I would recommend sitting in on a class and experiencing UVA before you sit down and talk with someone so you can talk about how much you love UVA.SweetTort wrote:So, I'm taking the LSAT next week, and I wanted to ask y'all a question.

Won't they just ask me to Skype interview? Or, worse, waitlist me preemptively?

Oh maybe I just don't understand the process. I thought it was apply, get invited to interview, then get admission decision. Is this not how it goes?SweetTort wrote:Tbh, I didn't know that happened.LikelyThrowaway wrote:Why wouldn't you just wait to get invited to interview?SweetTort wrote:So, I'm taking the LSAT next week, and I wanted to ask y'all a question.

If it is, I'd just wait to get the invitation then ask about a travel stipend (and expect to get turned down imo, but you never know).

What I'm saying tho is, if you get invited to interview, is that an on-campus interview or phone/skype?

Re: UVA c/o 2020 Applicants (2016-2017)
If you are in fact above both 75ths I would be shocked if they didn't invite you to interview. Although the speed at which they invite you to interview might depend on how busy they are with other applications. I probably wouldn't ask to interview, just because that typically seems to only happen before they are about to accept you, and if they haven't invited you already it's probably because they haven't gotten to your application yet and aren't ready for an interview. Honestly it probably wouldn't do any harm to your chances of getting accepted if you ask, though, so I guess it depends on what you feel most comfortable with.SweetTort wrote:So, I'm taking the LSAT next week, and I wanted to ask y'all a question.

After I was accepted they offered me a $400 stipend to visit at a time of my choosing and then again for ASW. I'm on the west coast, though, so I'm not sure if proximity to the school plays any role in how much they would offer you. I don't know about stipends before gaining acceptance.
ETA: The interviews are via skype / phone.

This was an incredibly helpful post. Thanks so much. I think I'll tour and then either interview (if I've been accepted and they ask to interview) or sit down with someone from admissions.

Seems like they're just more active right now than other schools, I applied last Thursday, had an interview request Friday and got in Monday a few hours after my interview. Im in state with an over 75th LSAT and below median GPA. Visited. Wrote a why UVA.

Can confirm you don't have to be extraordinary to get in right now. I'm under the 25th for GPA (over 75th LSAT)

I don't think that's the case. I wouldn't read into it too much.

I'm at median LSAT, 25 < GPA < 50 and I was admitted last week after my interview.PDX4343 wrote:Can confirm you don't have to be extraordinary to get in right now. I'm under the 25th for GPA (over 75th LSAT)

Is it advisable to send a quick thank you note to my interviewer? (Thanks for answering my questions, I appreciate your time, glad to have gotten admitted etc?). just not sure what proper etiquette is? Thanks.
