I plan on sending mine in this week, from what I read in last years thread they let everyone know on the deposit deadline April 1. Of course they were all denials as well.

Yeah I'm not expecting anything, but UH gave me only 5K less so it only makes sense for them to budge. At least from my point of view..PatriotP74 wrote:poptart123 wrote:I sent mine Monday and am still waiting.PatriotP74 wrote:Has anyone submitted the scholarship negotiation form? Highly doubt they do. I dont understand why they even implemented this new request form. They seem to be remaining consistent with their traditional policy of no negotiations.
Hoping that that changes this year, though!

I have some pretty good offers from (what I consider to be) peer schools of SMU that they would be competing with for applicants. So if they don't budge on mine I'm guessing they just don't up any offers.sneijder wrote:poptart123 wrote:Yeah I'm not expecting anything, but UH gave me only 5K less so it only makes sense for them to budge. I hope so. But history does not give me much optimism. lol I will be in that same boat, most likely.PatriotP74 wrote:I have some pretty good offers from (what I consider to be) peer schools of SMU that they would be competing with for applicants. What did they initially offer if you don't mind me asking? Also are they at the top of your list for attending or are you waiting for some other schools?

FWIW y'all, I submitted this "negotiation" form with a full ride plus stipend from WFU, full ride from Tulane, full ride from Baylor, Iowa full ride, etc... they didn't budge a bit from 24k. Eventually in the 11th hour, after a UT acceptance, they cranked it up close to 30k, if memory serves correctly. I wouldn't expect them to move on scholly. I think it's a way to get data for them

Well good luck on UT I struck out with them. They seem to be having an odd admissions cycle.

Missed your other question, yes, Outside of UT, SMU is pretty much top. Mainly bc of Dallas. Although a full ride to OU might win out. :/PatriotP74 wrote:sneijder wrote:15. Some peers have come in better. Still waiting on UTPatriotP74 wrote:sneijder wrote:

So y'all were right... I figured, but I wanted to be optimistic. SMU didn't budge in negotiation. I just got the email this morning. UH is about 1/3 the cost for me, Baylor about 15% (really just cost of living), and Notre Dame is even the same as SMU - still nothing.

Dang! Well I'm waiting on a response from one school on negotiation then I'm gonna send in to SMU. Did you write an email to go along with the attachments or jut submit the form and offers?poptart123 wrote:So y'all were right... I figured, but I wanted to be optimistic. !! Very nice, congrats on that . From what I understand this is the maximum SMU offers besides the lucky few who are selected for the Sumners scholarship.Navyhornguy wrote:In via status checker today with a 30K/yr Dean's scholarship! This cycle continues to be interesting.

This was my thought too (I was awarded the same 30k) however they actually say on their website that they offer around 3 full rides per year that are from SMU and not private applications. So they do offer at least one level higher.
Found it on the scholarship page,
Approximately three students per entering class are awarded the prestigious Hutchison Scholarship. This scholarship covers the full cost of tuition and fees. There are also several scholarships awarded by private foundations.

Go look at their ABA standard 509, it shows the exact numbers of students receiving grants, and the percentile amounts. SMU has 28 students currently enrolled receiving more than full-tuition scholarships, which averages out to about 9 per year. The Sumners is the only outside organization scholly that gives a full ride specifically to SMU. Subtract out the 3-5 Sumners, you'll have a rough estimate of how many full-rides SMU hands out. 30k is really the top end of the scale, with roughly only 4% of the class getting more.

My bro was awarded this full scholly last year. Unless they changed it, it has a stipulation that you remain in the top 1/3. So, from an expected valuation standpoint and assuming a moderate risk profile, one would be better served to take the 30k unconditional than the full with a top 1/3 requirement. SMU is the weirdest school in the scholarship realm IMO. I really wanted to go (until UT acceptance), but they didn't budge on anything.PatriotP74 wrote:BeatriceButler wrote:!! I want to say I read somewhere that if you are given the full and you fall outside the top 1/3 you fall back to the 30k, that could be wrong or something that someone negotiated not sure but I think I read that in a past years thread.BasilHallward wrote:

In today via phone call and status checker, 30k a year as well.
I know SMU has a bit better placement and has a chokehold on the Dallas market but it's going to be a tough choice when UH gave me a full ride and I'd have the added benefit of living at home...

Same offers here, passing up a couple full ride offers is tough. I don't live in Houston though so wouldn't save anything there. Tough decisions this time of year.
Seriously? What are you waiting for?
