I was just placed on hold today. Should I be expecting a decision in the next day or so, or do you all think this 'hold' is for the semester break?

It's different for each candidate. I've been on hold sense the 7th of this month and haven't gotten an update. Others get updated a day or so latter. Just wait it out a bit, you'll probably hear back by Januaryzac95 wrote:I was just placed on hold today. I went on hold today too. It 100% means we will get a decision either tomorrow or Thursday. Wait, that's just wishful thinking.zac95 wrote:I was just placed on hold today. Should I be expecting a decision in the next day or so, or do you all think this 'hold' is for the semester break?

So this idea was adressed in a different thread but it was years ago and there was no resolution. Is it possible to negotiate a scholly offer into a stipend? I have the GI bill which will cover the cost of tuition. However, I also have a wife and two kids so getting some money to offset the fact that I am leaving a full time job would be nice. Any one have any experience with this or heard about anyone attempting it?

I would call their financial aid office and ask how they process scholarships using ch33/post 911 gi Bill. Technically it would be applied to tuition before the va pays, but other/some schools are willing to modify the language of the scholarship to award it straight to the veteran for cost of living purposes since tuition is covered. If the financial aid office won't do it by itself, I'd then ask the law school if there was a way for them to work with fin aid to get it to work for you to attend

So a buddy of mine got accepted and the offered to fly him to FL to visit the school. I'd be super interested in a free trip to the school (especially now that its winter). Anyone else get this offer? If so, when did they tell you about it?

They offer a travel stipend of up to 300$ if you are coming from 200+ miles away. It was in an e-mail. I am coming from new england area, I hope they can increase the amount for me.thriller1122 wrote:So a buddy of mine got accepted and the offered to fly him to FL to visit the school. Obviously, a big part of selecting a school is going to be subjective.(a gut feeling of sorts) But if you're looking to work in government, FSU is a better choice. If you're looking to work for private firms, UF is a better choice. But it's not make or break in either direction. You can get a government job out of UF and a private firm job out of FSU.Jrr13 wrote:That's a good reason for UF as well. And I can see how Tallahassee would get old after a while. The fact that you would have a degree from both major Florida schools could also drastically expand your alumni networkingclarf wrote:I actually went to FSU for undergrad. Great school, but I'd rather go to UF because I live outside of Jacksonville and it could theoretically commute there. Also the prospect of living in Tallahassee for another three years scares me.Jrr13 wrote:Have you visited both schools? I much prefer FSU to UF after visiting them both. They both have great alumni networks in Florida, but what drew me in about FSU was the fact that you have the networking and government agencies in Tallahassee right in front of youclarf wrote:Accepted with a 50% scholarship, but I've got a 100% at FSU. Think I can haggle for more? If I could even get 75% at UF I'd go there in a heartbeat.
Can't hurt to try. Worst they can say is no.clarf wrote:Accepted with a 50% scholarship, but I've got a 100% at FSU. Think I can haggle for more? If I could even get 75% at UF I'd go there in a heartbeat.

This is kind of a general question, but I'm not sure where else to ask this. How does one go about scholarship negotiation? One of my top choice schools offered me no money, but a much higher ranked school did. Do I just send an email with something along the lines of you're one of my top choices, but I've received scholarship offers elsewhere, is there someone I can talk to in regards of scholarship offers?

I think the general wisdom from TLS is just that. Have you been receiving emails from a particular adcomm member? If so, that's who I'd start with, and I think you've hit the nail on the head: "Hey, I really wanna go to UF, but <school> is offering me more money. Since the cost of law school is a big deal to me, is there any way UF can help me out with that?" (more or less, use prettier words and better sentence structure, but you get the idea). They'll likely require you to prove that offer exists, but that should be easy enough. I've heard that UF will negotiate, but all the scholarships I've seen have been represented as a percentage of the scholarship, so I don't know if you could ask for more percentage points or straight money.manda94 wrote:This is kind of a general question, but I'm not sure where else to ask this. Me too. Dont know if that means a decision is coming soon or if we just reaffirmed our limbo status.

I think they usually release decisions below 160 lsat and 3.6 gpa around February based on LSN. That, and the fact that a lot more people took the lsat and got in the 160s this year compared to recent years means a lot of schools are holding off to see what all of the applicant data is.Kat1021 wrote:Me too. Accepted! 3.8/154, on hold since September.
Scholarship would have been included with admitted email, correct? Nothing from UF, but 25% at FSU

In with 75% scholly on top of in state tuition. As someone who wants to practice in Florida, heavily leaning towards accepting this.
Seriously? What are you waiting for?
Now there's a charge.
