Same here. I love living in OC and they're about the same rank, so I really wish UCI would give me the offer than UC Davis is.bababang wrote:I just got in yesterday too. +1. Unfortunately, they've made it pretty clear that they don't have any intention of even coming close. I have no idea how I'm going to convince my wife that we should turn down $40,000+ more at Davis in order to go to UCI.GreenMilkTea wrote:Same here. The only thing you know about my situation is the difference in aid I'm being offered between Davis and UCI. You're entitled to your opinion, but that's hardly enough information to make an informed judgement.tuxedocat wrote:Honestly that seems like a terrible idea.spencercross wrote:+1. Re: UC Davis c/o 2018 Applicants (2014-2015 cycle)
I would take UCI over UC Davis for a $40k difference. I live near Irvine so that's 3 years of free rent (I would live at home). The three years of free rent would probably exceed $40k, so yeah, it would be a no-brainer for me. It really depends on the individual, guys.spencercross wrote:The only thing you know about my situation is the difference in aid I'm being offered between Davis and UCI. Fair enough--of course there are always extenuating circumstances! But from an objective perspective, there's virtually no significant difference between the two schools in terms of employment outcomes (if anything Davis has an edge), but $40k+ *is* a significant difference. Sometimes wives have good ideas, that's all I'm sayingspencercross wrote:The only thing you know about my situation is the difference in aid I'm being offered between Davis and UCI. Seriously, this is needed. I have mentally decided on Davis, but am waiting to put my deposit in after attending ASD this weekend. Would like to see who my classmates are going to be!Renate300 wrote:Is there a class of 2018 FB group?

The Scholarship info, at least for me, was sent via email a few days after i was accepted (was in my spam folder). Nothing will be available on My Awards until April 15th, i believe.bababang wrote:Hey so I just received my admission packet in the mail and there is no mention of my merit award. I then created an account and logged into the MyAwards, but there's nothing there either.
I feel like I'm doing something wrong. I find it extremely hard to believe I didn't receive anything, in any amount...How do you check what your scholarship amount is?

Is anyone else still waiting on an answer? My application is still in evaluation; When I talked to admissions last they said that they've extended the app deadline to June 30th, and that pending apps will also roll longer (possibly past seat deposits)

Yup, still waiting on Davis and Irvine. When you say they have extended it to June 30th do you mean they are accepting new application until then?

Re: UC Davis c/o 2018 Applicants (2014-2015 cycle)
Mine came via e-mail almost a month after my acceptance. I would double-check your FAFSA and ensure you submitted the correct code for Davis...I believe they wait for this info before considering students for merit aid regardless of what the determination is for need-based aid. Not sure if that is what is holding anything up in your particular case, but at least it is something you can actively check on for yourself? Keeping my fingers crossed for you!bababang wrote:Hey so I just received my admission packet in the mail and there is no mention of my merit award. Re: UC Davis c/o 2018 Applicants (2014-2015 cycle)
They said they're actually still accepting new applications but are prioritizing those that were submitted by the original deadline in March. I couldn't get a clear answer on how long it'll take for them to get back to us though. I'm thinking maybe they're hoping to get new applications from those with a Feb or June 2015 LSAT? If you look at the Davis Law webpage the deadline listed also says June 30th now - https://law.ucdavis.edu/jd/

This is useful, thanks. It looks like their Feb 1st priority deadline doesn't mean anything.monikoala wrote:They said they're actually still accepting new applications but are prioritizing those that were submitted by the original deadline in March. I applied 1/2 and I received my scholarship info by separate email a month and a half after I was accepted. I did not submit my fafsa by the deadline and I believe that's what took so long. But I was also very impatient and sent financial aid an email asking when my scholly info would come. I got an email back from the dean and then the scholarship info came 5 days later.

Hi everyone, I'm a 2014 UC Davis Law graduate and thought I'd chime in here, especially on the post-graduation employment outlook. I am one of the unemployed graduates who has been looking for work for almost a year since leaving UC Davis Law. Please send me a message if you want details, specific advice, or a devil's advocate in your decision making. Good luck everyone!adbm29 wrote:Class of 2014 employment statistics are up, fyi.

Ranking doesn't really matter past a certain point. You're either top 10% or you ain't.adbm29 wrote:Thanks for offering! I disagree. If he/she in the top 20% and still can't find a job, that would be a much bigger red flag in my mind then if he/ she is below the median and can't find a job.ManoftheHour wrote:Ranking doesn't really matter pas a certain point. Re: UC Davis c/o 2018 Applicants (2014-2015 cycle)
I was top 40-45% when I graduated with a 3.3. I did fail the California bar along with about 15% of my class, but you should keep in mind that only came out at Thanksgiving--I had been applying to entry level attorney positions until then. Since January, I've applied to over 80 positions that do not require admission but are still in the regulatory, compliance, policy, and tax fields. I have pretty much written off starting as an attorney in the private sector at this point, but am keeping state work in mind once I receive my February results. I entered Davis with a 164 LSAT and 3.6 directly from a nationally recognized undergrad school.
Regarding the correlation between class rank and job placement, you should straight up ask King Hall for the coefficient. You deserve to know. Looking at the data quickly, it looks like about 40 of my class of 169 (23%) are either unemployed or employed by the university temporarily, and fewer than half work for any size of law firm. Anecdotally, my roommate was a superstar in moot court and law review and ranked in the 10% (that is to say, about the top 15 students) but had a very tough time finding a job in his home legal market in Southern California and only landed something permanent in late February.
