Is the difference between those without GPA's and non-resident aliens just Canadians and internationals who studied in America?

Good point. On top of that, not all schools have medians (or even 25th) in the 170s, so a lot of T14 matriculants won't have 170+... Which makes it even better!

That's hopeful indeed, Grey! While we're on the subject of absolute numbers, I see that a grand total of 96(!) people without a GPA enrolled in all T14 schools combined last year. That's WAY less than I would've guessed.

yeah, <100 is shockingly small... although I think only like 1600 internationals applied to law schools last year wan't it? In that case, on the other hand, I suppose they are rather well represented.hereisonehand wrote:That's hopeful indeed, Grey! Not sure if this is correct. H alone has >50 non-US citizens. while not all of them may have no gpa, most of them likely will. the balance will be more than made up by the US citizens who have international ug and no gpa.hereisonehand wrote: I see that a grand total of 96(!) people without a GPA enrolled in all T14 schools combined last year.

Mate. Do some research. Go onto http://www.abarequireddisclosures.org/ and click on any law school. You'll see the numbers for "# Not included in GPA Calculation". That's people without GPA a.k.a. people with non-US/non-Canada degrees.appind wrote:Not sure if this is correct. cool down, tiger. no one saying he is.
the data is striking in that while 10% of matriculants are non citizens for h, just less than 2% have no gpa.

I feel like this seems reasonable. My guess is the largest group of non-citizens are Canadians (with GPAs). If that's the case, it's not too surprising.appind wrote:the data is striking in that while 10% of matriculants are non citizens for h, just less than 2% have no gpa.

What about international students who come to the US for their undergrad? In that situation I'd imagine they would have GPAs, but would not be citizens.

Yeah, internationals who came to US for their undergrad as well as Canadians make up the difference.

Also, there are some US citizens who do their undergrad abroad to further complicate the picture. Regardless; appind, this data is what schools report to the ABA, and what it shows is that while there are quite substantial numbers of foreign nationals at certain top schools (and rather few at others - hello, UVA!), the number of people who have completed their undergrad outside the US/Canada that enrolled last year is negligible at most places. Unfortunately the 509's for the previous years available through that website don't provide the 'not included in the GPA calculation' numbers, so I can't compare 2014 to prior years on this point.

Re: International Applicants 2014-15
right, the northerly neighbors explain this. true there will be a couple of citizens with no gpa ug (we have some in the spreadsheet) so the number of true internationals may be even smaller by a tiny margin.

Checking in! Thanks OP! Really sweet to have this thread for international applicants.
Had my undergrad in China, a few years of WE.
So I was wondering in general how long does it take for the admission packets to arrive at our place. Was admitted into a school about twenty days ago. Msg on the status checker said a packet was already on its way yet the last time I checked mailbox was still empty. I assume that international snail mails would take extra time but would be nice to have an idea of what to expect.
Best of luck guys! December should be witnessing quite a few waves of admissions...I hope...

Sweet username. Be advised that someone else already uses that avatar on the board, so you will probably be told to find yourself a new one by one of the mods soon. Also, if you haven't done so already, please take the time to add your info to the spreadsheet (see the OP), for the greater good of future generations and sad data geeks. I have no idea how long it takes for snail mail to get to China, but perhaps someone else can answer that question for you.AnastasiaBeaverhausn wrote:Checking in! Thanks OP! Yup no love from Penn for us international folk... as there is no data for the previous years I can't tell whether last year was an aberration or the rule though.AnastasiaBeaverhausn wrote:Really should've checked this out before EDed Penn.T14 ranked by percentage of matriculants without a GPA

That new data is so intimidating...UPenn literally admitted no international students (at least those without GPAs) last year?
Wow.
Wow.

Or it could be that Penn admitted several int'l folks but no one attended? But even in that case it's highly likely that it didn't take any int'l applications from the ED pool.yc820 wrote:That new data is so intimidating...UPenn literally admitted no international students (at least those without GPAs) last year?
