UVA Waitlist Class of 2017 Forum

Here's my question: do we believe Cordel? Do we assume he is being honest and they genuinely are expecting less movement this year, or is this all part of an elaborate head fake designed to weed out the waitlisters who are not fully committed to UVA?

Hmmm, not sure if I'd go so far as to suggest that their motive is to weed out those who are not committed to UVA (that seems so devious...), but I wouldn't be too surprised if they might be bluffing a bit, or toeing the company line so to speak.

Edit: Also, anyone else getting a bit annoyed by Cordel? It was funny for a while, but now...

Agreed. We reached peak-Cordel about 2 emails ago and it has all been downhill since.

Today was the deadline for admitted students to make their second deposit. Let's hope some admitted students decide at the last minute to join TFA and deffer their admission. Of all places I saw a t2 admissions director in a bar. He was saying the wait list is going to move this year because the lsat/gpa numbers just are not there anymore.

I am getting sick of waiting and am finally jumping through the hoops for my safety but I am confident that there well be movement from 1 of the 6 t14 I am wait listed at... UVA is now #1 on my list.

I can believe it for schools outside of the T14, and maybe Georgetown, but what about the rest of the T14? Was the Admissions Director you spoke to referring to the T14 as well or just his/her own school?

Everything across the board. Wish I could get more specific because it is pretty funny what he said about t14 adcom directors...

They had a separate deadline just for withdrawing other deposits? Hmmm...

Sounds like the UF thing where they make you pledge you are not seat deposited anywhere. The issue with those is that they do not catch people who are offered admission after those things are signed. Hence why i signed the UF one asap and am hoping to get the fuck off this list

That's intentional I think. I don't think they can force you to get off of waitlists. Unless you committed to doing so (like a deferral maybe?).

It sounds like Harvard has pulled a good number of folks, though Stanford and Yale have been slow so maybe there will be a little bit here. Based on some other threads, Chicago and Columbia are moving slow too.

I feel like George R. R. Martin is writing the script for this cycle. WL movement is Winter, ad-comm directors are Joffrey, the Virginia/Penn massacre of January was the Red Wedding. Winter has got to come soon, and when it does I have a feeling it is going to be big.

Penn dinged a lot of people (myself included) and NU is taking some people off their list today. Heard nothing from UCLA, Duke, or Michigan.

Seconding this. While the weekly waitlist emails looked promising at first in terms of giving us information about the process from UVA, they've all said the same thing. I really just want to know whether any of us have a shot this year...

Sending good vibes to those of you riding the WL! Hope I get to meet some of you real soon in C-Ville! Congrats Pishee77! Since it seems there is a lot of speculation as to if the class size is supposed to be smaller than the C/O 2016, the answer at this point is yes. It should be around 300 +/- 15. No clue if they over enrolled based on their 300 goal. Anyway, best of luck to you all!

^this. My understanding is they received ~330 deposits. I heard this from a friend who is a current student. I think this is why
the person who got off the waitlist a few weeks was deferred a year. But thats just a guess.
