I'm also OOS. International actually.grantev wrote:Any other OOS applicants on the thread? I'm from Michigan, but UF is one of my top picks. Submitted 12/14, then NDR on 12/19. I saw that only about 10% of each class is OOS, so I'm pretty nervous. Numbers are 3.6/161. I think I remember reading somewhere that they claim not to evaluate apps any differently based on residency, but I have a hard time believing that.

Re: UF Class of 2016 Applicants (2012-2013 cycle)
I know it is awfully late to be asking this question, but Florida's specificity in their Personal Statement request has been holding me up from applying for quite some time. My PS is about community service related activities and how they connected to several academic research projects I did while in Undergrad. As UF specifically states "The applicant's academic experiences and academic skills should be the dominant theme of the statement" I am not sure whether my discussion of my research is enough since the "dominant theme" is definitely community service. As someone who just hits the medians, is it too risky to submit this statement with a few minor edits? Should I be writing an entirely new statement more focused on academics? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I think you will be fine with your PS. I was in a similar situation to you and was accepted. The "dominant theme" of my PS was an obstacle I overcame in my life and how it influenced my decision to attend law school. To satisfy UF's requirement I discussed changing my major and taking more law related classes resulting in an upward grade trend. Yours is more relevant than mine since you discussed academic research, which I don't think a large amount of people have.fragrock wrote:I know it is awfully late to be asking this question, but Florida's specificity in their Personal Statement request has been holding me up from applying for quite some time. Thanks for easing my mind. I only wish I had made a decision to submit earlier. I feel like my chances are hurt with the late submission date.whisky wrote:

If you have the numbers, you have the numbers. As long as your essay is coherent and not completely off the wall, it will have the same effect as 95% of all personal statements; next to nothing. As for applying late, last year's thread is full of late offers. Don't stress about the small stuff.fragrock wrote:Thanks for easing my mind. I only wish I had made a decision to submit earlier. Eas, now that Dec.test takers' applications are presumably in, for the most part, i think people like you and i who have been NDR for 2+ months should start to hear back relatively soon.

I hope you right. But I still think it is auto-admits. I think those that heard back have not been waiting that long. I know friend that was NDR for less then a month and that time includes all the holidays, who's status changed today.slawww wrote:+1.eas09d wrote: Can I ask what both of your numbers are? Yeah, I'm sure they're still accepting a lot of the December test taker auto-admits now. If I had to guess when I would hear back regarding a decision, I'd put my money on mid-February.

Nothing from anyone. I'm just hoping a lot of splitters apply and it helps me get in with the reverse split...

I was when I had a 168, but I ED'd to UVA after the 173. So, I am now contractually obligated to NOT consider UF. I'll have to withdraw as soon as my UVA packet comes in the mail. So I really hope my spot (assuming the notice isn't a ding, of course) goes to one of y'all.slawww wrote:Congrats! Yeah, definitely another round of auto-admits haha. I spent 2 years at Santa Fe a while back. Gainesville is an incredible place and UF is fantastic.

Auto-admits be damned. 159/3.99. Of course, I haven't actually received my acceptance, but my status changed to the ole decision reached, notification sent. I was NDR for about a 35 days (Hanukkah & Kwanza included)
Ohhhh UF I know my reverse splits got you wet like the everglades.
